Student Response Exhibition winners announced: “Bridging Generational Gaps”
The Richard and Carole Cocks Art Museum (RCCAM) and the Department of Art at Miami University is pleased to announce the winners of the 2025 Student Response Exhibition (SRE): Bridging Generational Gaps.
Visitors to the exhibition cast their votes over the past several weeks, selecting three standout works from among a diverse range of student submissions exploring the theme of generational connection and understanding. The results were revealed during a celebratory reception and awards ceremony held Wednesday, Oct. 29, in the Art Building lobby.
This Year’s Winners
First Place: Chairs at the Table — Cora McNeill, '29, Interior Design
Second Place: Waiting for a Visitor — Lia Pistole, '29, Architecture
Third Place: Edges Across Time — Peixuan (Penny) Yan, Graduate Student, Educational Leadership
Each of the three award recipients is a first-time SRE winner, representing three different artistic media. Cash prizes of $500, $250, and $100 were presented courtesy of the RCCAM Membership Committee, whose generous support makes this annual recognition possible.
How do we define the spaces between generations—and how might art help bridge them? These questions anchor Bridging Generational Gaps, the 10th Student Response Exhibition presented by RCCAM in collaboration with Miami University’s Department of Art.
Inspired by the book Gentelligence: The Revolutionary Approach to Leading an Intergenerational Workforce by Miami University Professor Megan Gerhardt, the exhibition invited students from across disciplines to explore how age, experience, and perspective shape the ways we connect—or disconnect—across generations.
From ceramics and photography to textiles, drawing, and poetry, Miami students responded to the prompt: What do generational gaps mean to you? How do you define them? What do generational gaps look like to you?
Through these works, artists challenge stereotypes, celebrate shared experiences, and reflect on the bridges that connect us across time, family, and culture.
