Program Information
Teacher Academy Partnership Program is a collaborative program between Miami University’s College of Education, Health, and Society and public schools in the Greater Cincinnati and Dayton areas.
Purpose of the Program
Miami University’s Teacher Academy Partnership is designed to offer high school students meaningful opportunities to explore a career in education. Miami collaborates with local high schools to develop advanced curriculum that aligns closely with its Introduction to Education and Educational Psychology courses.
A dedicated liaison between Miami University and the Teacher Academies works directly with academy instructors, supports students by answering questions about higher education and degree pathways, and helps coordinate campus visits. These visits give students a first-hand look at college life and provide valuable insights into what it means to pursue a degree in education.
The goal of the partnership is to help students envision themselves in college and prepare them for a successful journey toward earning a degree and teacher licensure.
Vision for Future Educators
We prepare future and current teachers who design and implement culturally and contextually relevant curriculum and pedagogy. Empowered by a critical and substantive understanding of research, these teachers are positioned to confront social issues, apply global perspectives, and actively participate in a democratic society.
What we aim to foster in our teaching candidates:
- Become critically conscious curriculum makers.
- Work in solidarity within community contexts.
- Develop a critical lens to see power and privilege and the consequences within and beyond educational contexts.
- Build intellectual framing/lens toward various ways of being (knowing, learning, reflecting, and acting) as pedagogues.
