Majoring in French at Miami opened a world of possibilities for me. I was able to improve my language skills through course work and study abroad, which prepared me to teach in Dijon, France. I also learned to practice rigorous thinking and writing which has helped me succeed in graduate school.
Abigail Culpepper, '19
PhD Candidate at Brown University
My experiences as a student in the French Department profoundly shaped me. I learned critical theory and research methods and adopted a mindset of cultural humility and a passion for philosophy. My supportive and brilliant professors enriched my understanding of history, language, and culture, and I continue to be inspired by them to stay passionately curious and challenge the dominant narrative in our society.
Jenny Wahl, '05
Senior Program Manager for Business Optimization at Strategic Education
As a French student at Miami University, I had the incredible opportunity to delve deeper into a different culture, history, and language than the one I was born and raised with. My French coursework taught me to think critically, philosophically, and creatively each day and I plan to use these valuable skills as I pursue a French teaching degree.
