The HWI is staffed by faculty, doctoral students in Composition and Rhetoric, and by specially trained undergraduates. 

The current HWI team members are:

Dr. Heidi A. McKee, HWI Director, Roger and Joyce L. Howe Professor of Writing, Associate Professor of English, and Coordinator of BUS 308

Heidi McKee

Heidi has held a number of administrative positions at Miami, including serving as the founding director of the Digital Writing Collaborative, the founding director of the Professional Writing major, and the assessment coordinator for the Composition Program.  Her scholarly interests include professional and business communications, writing center theory and practice, writing pedagogy across the disciplines, digital writing and rhetoric, and research methodologies and ethics. In addition to numerous articles in leading composition journals, she is author of The Ethics of Internet Research and editor of three collections: Digital Writing Research (winner of the Computers and Composition Best Book Award), Technological Ecologies and Sustainability, and Digital Writing Assessment and Evaluation. Her current  book project is Business Communication in a Digital Age.

Caitlin Martin, HWI Assistant Director

Caitlin Martin is a PhD student in composition and rhetoric. Her scholarly interests include writing program assessment, writing across the curriculum/writing in the disciplines, and learning transfer. Caitlin earned her MA from Miami University in 2013 and taught for several years at Indiana State University.

Mandy Olejnik, HWI Assistant Director

olejnikMandy is a master’s student in the Composition and Rhetoric program. Her scholarly interests include rhetoric in the writing center, audience awareness, and undergraduate writing and rhetoric majors. Before coming to Miami, she earned a BA with a duo major of Writing and Rhetoric and French Language and Literature from Oakland University, where she worked as a writing center consultant, embedded writing specialist, and undergraduate teaching assistant.

Yebing Zhao, HWI Assistant Director

Yebing ZhaoYebing is a PhD student in Composition and Rhetoric. Her scholarly interests include second language writing instruction, comparative rhetoric, cross-cultural communication, world Englishes, functional linguistics, and ESL/EFL writing centers. She earned two Masters degrees— one in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics from Sun Yat-sen University, China (SYSU) while the other in Composition and Rhetoric from Miami University (MU). In her spare time, she likes playing Chinese zither, watching movies, cooking, and traveling.

Seth Bartley, Consultant

Seth BartleySeth (Class of 2019) is an Accountancy major and Mandarin Chinese minor. He is a member of Pi Sigma Epsilon, a professional business fraternity specializing in Marketing, Management and Sales. His hobbies include reading, writing fiction, film criticism, and following politics.

Riley Christenson, Consultant

Riley ChristensonRiley (Class of 2020) is a Supply Chain & Operations Management major with a Sport Management minor. On campus, she’s involved in Chi Omega and Women in Business, and competes on the Miami Equestrian Team. In her spare time, she loves riding her horse Eddie, and she enjoys watching her two favorite sports teams, the Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Wild.

Terra Collier, Consultant

Terra CollierTerra (Class of 2018) is an Economics major with a double major in Cultural Anthropology. She is a member of the Honors and Scholars programs, the Vice President of the Multicultural Business Association, Scene Editor for Miami Quarterly, and a member of the business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi. In her spare time, she enjoys reading philosophical works, meditating, and spending time with her friends and family.

Kelleen Haddad, Consultant

Kellen HaddadKelleen Haddad (Class of 2019) is a Marketing major with minors in Analytics and Nutrition. She is a member of Miami’s sorority Chi Omega and business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi. In her free time she loves working out and listening to country music.

Grace Hoffman, Consultant

Grace HoffmanGrace (Class of 2019) is a Marketing major with minors in Interactive Media Studies and Rhetoric Writing. She is a member of Miami’s business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi and also works in the Career and Professional Development office in FSB. In her free time, she loves cooking and getting coffee with friends.

Alex Kenkel, Consultant

Alex KenkelAlex (class of 2020) is a Accountancy and Finance double major as well as a Business Analytics co-major. On campus, he is a member of the professional business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi, is a member of East Bridge Consultancy, and is on the Club Dodgeball team. In his free time, he likes to produce music, read, and hang out with friends.

David Layman, Consultant

david laymanDavid (Class of 2018) is an Accountancy Major. He is a member of Beta Alpha Psi, Lambda Chi Alpha, Circle K, and works as a tour guide in the Office of Admissions. In his free time, he enjoys playing baseball, hockey, and broomball and likes to take yearly vacations to Southern California.

Cassie Lucki, Consultant

Cassie Lucki Cassie (Class of 2018) is a Marketing major with a double minor in Supply Chain Management and Fashion. At Miami, she is a member of Women in Business and Miami University’s Fashion & Design. In her free time, she enjoys reading, listening to music, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

Laura Mena, Consultant

laura menaLaura (Class of 2020) is a Marketing and Entrepreneurship Major. On campus, she is the Marketing Director of Redhawk Ventures, a member of Alpha Phi sorority and a Farmer School of Business Academic Scholar. In Alpha Phi, she serves as the chairman of their largest philanthropy event, the Red Dress Gala.

Colin Murphy, Consultant

Nitya Nambiar, Consultant

NambiarNitya (Class of 2018) is a Marketing major, double minoring in Business Analytics and Interactive Media Studies. On campus she is a part of Pi Sigma Epsilon and serves on the executive board of the Indian Students Association. Outside of school activities, she loves listening to and making music.

Priya Natarajan, Consultant

On campus, she is the President of the International Student Advisory Council (ISAC) and is involved in the Indian Student Association and Boxing Club. Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, playing tennis, and reading.

jill obryanJill (Class of 2018) is an Economics major with a double in Sustainability. At Miami she serves as VP of Philanthropy for AKPsi, and is a member of the Equestrian Team and Model United Nations. In her free time she enjoys reading and exploring new places.

Ning Zhang, Consultant

ning zhangNing (Class of 2018) is Accountancy and Information System Majors. She is a member of Beta Alpha Psi, former member of ISAC. She can speak both English and Chinese fluently. In her free time, she enjoys photography, and likes to travel to the world.
