Cell Phones

Most students will bring or purchase cell phones during their time at Miami. Please note that the phone you may now be using in your home country will not work in the US unless it is ‘unlocked’ and you purchase a SIM card and calling plan from a US cell phone company. For that reason, some students choose to purchase new phones upon arrival in Oxford.

In response to this need, Miami University Campus Store has an agreement with Verizon Wireless to provide MiTech cellular plans. Please read the instruction on their website if you are interested. Please direct any questions about Miami’s cell phone plan to MiTechcellular@MiamiOH.edu.

If you wish to have a cell phone and plan directly through a cell phone provider such as AT&T, Verizon, Sprint (and not through Miami's cellular plan), you may need to wait until you arrive at Miami to arrange purchase. We encourage you to contact the stores or refer to the cell phone providers’ websites to learn about their plans and requirements before purchase.

Computers

If your computer was purchased outside the United States, we strongly suggest that you check with your laptop manufacturer to determine if your computer can be used in the United States.

If you plan on purchasing a computer or laptop in the U.S., you may want to consider purchasing from the Miami University Campus Store. They offer Dell and Apple laptops at a discounted price through the Student Laptop Program. In addition, their knowledgeable and friendly staff are available to assist with questions and orders for other hardware, software, peripherals and electronic devices. All laptops purchased through the Student Laptop Program also come with a three-year warranty.
