A spotlight on watch parties on campus and across the Oxford community was one of the most read Miami University news stories of the year.

From the announcement of Miami University’s Spring Commencement speaker to a rundown of what returning students could expect to see on campus for fall semester, 2024 was full of notable events and stories. What follows is the list of some of the most read and visited content from Miami’s news team in the past calendar year.

  1. Chipotle’s Chairman and CEO Brian Niccol ’96 to address Miami University graduates (Jan. 24)
    It was announced the then-chairman and chief executive officer of Chipotle Mexican Grill would give the keynote address at Miami University’s Spring Commencement on May 18 in Yager Stadium.

  2. Sharon M. Draper’s middle grade novel ‘Out of my mind’ is now a film (Feb. 14)
    Draper MAT ’73 talked about her bestselling novel, “Out of My Mind,” being turned into a movie on streaming service Disney+.

  3. Celebrate the solar eclipse with one of these five campus and Oxford watch parties (April 1)
    We spotlighted where the local community could watch the celestial event.

  4. Ten new things Miami University students will see in the 2024-2025 academic year (Aug. 21)

    The assistant professor of Emerging Technology in Business + Design was a pioneer in esports curriculum.

  8. Renovations reshaping Bachelor Hall as a hub for the humanities (June 13)
    By summer 2026, Miami University will have a refurbished hub for the humanities.

  9. ‘Spirit of collaboration’: McVey Data Science brings Miamians together (Feb. 8)
    The newest addition to Miami’s academic buildings is the 92,000-square-foot-facility building located along Tallawanda Road.

  10. BCRTA breaks ground on the Chestnut Street multimodal station Jan. 19 with Miami and the city of Oxford (Jan. 24)
    Groundbreaking for Chestnut Street Station, a multimodal transportation center located at 97 W. Chestnut Street, took place in January.

  11. Promotion and tenure granted to 44 (Feb. 23)
    Miami University's board of trustees approved the promotion and/or tenure of 36 faculty members and eight librarians at its February meeting.

  12. Miami’s Honors College earns national recognition (June 24)
    Miami’s Honors College was ranked No. 6 in the 50 Best Honors College – 2024 by College Transitions.
