‘Falling for Miami’ photo contest winners selected
More than 250 entries were submitted; winning photos spotlighted natural beauty on campus
More than 250 entries were submitted to the ‘Falling for Miami’ photo contest, which ran Sept. 25-Oct. 25. The Miami community was invited to share their “falling for Miami” moments, tapping into the fall semester.

First place: Julia Rode
Bishop Woods path, early autumn leaves brightened by a light rain
Rode is a junior Political Science and Economics double major and member of the Honors College. A native of Oxford, she is a freelance photographer with Julia Rode Photography.
Second Place: Louis Scholer
Double rainbow touching “Capturing The Scent of Rain” behind the Engineering quad
Scholer is a second-year Mechanical Engineering major, member of the Honors College, and a Lilly Leadership Institute member.
A native of Luxembourg, he is involved in Miami’s chapter of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and Engineers Without Borders.
His photo of a rainbow viewed from behind Benton Hall (home of the College of Engineering and Computing) shows one end of the rainbow aligning with the sculpture “Capturing The Scent of Rain” (the sculpture, by Jun Kaneko, was donated by alumnus Tom Smith '50).
Third Place: Maddie Beyl
Making a path to Alumni Hall
Beyl is a senior Architecture major from the Louisville, Kentucky, area.
She is a member of Miami’s chapters of Alpha Rho Chi (architecture and allied arts fraternity) and the American Institute of Architecture Students. She is also a member of Miami League Pickleball and the Ski and Board Club.
Her photo shows a well-beaten path to Alumni Hall, home of the Department of Architecture. Architecture majors spend many hours in the studios there.
