Miami University is among the “Top Producing Institutions” with the highest number of candidates selected for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program.

Fulbright announced Tuesday that Miami is among 114 higher education institutions listed.

In June, six Miamians were selected for Fulbright U.S. Student Program awards for the 2025-2026 academic year.

“This is the second time Miami has received this recognition, the first being in 2021, and it is a goal we aspire to every year,” said Karla Guinigundo, director of global partnerships and Fulbright program advisor at Miami.

“From our faculty Fulbright Scholar alumni to the faculty and staff who write letters of recommendation and participate in campus interviews, Miami is home to a strong community of Fulbright champions who never hesitate to pitch in and help prepare our students to compete for these prestigious national awards.”

Fulbright records list Miami’s first Fulbright U.S. Student Program grantee in 1949 — a research grantee to France in French language and literature, Guinigundo said.

“We have had a total of 97 student Fulbright winners since then and at least one winner every consecutive year since 2005,” she said.

Cheryl Young, associate vice president of Miami’s Global Initiatives, said, “The Fulbright program invests in building sustainable international relations as it encourages understanding and empathy. Educational exchange is a crucial activity, and the Fulbright awards contribute to building personal connections through teaching, research, and cultural connection.”

Five Fulbright semifinalists have been named this year.

Several Fulbright information sessions have been scheduled for this spring.

The Fulbright Program, established in 1946, is the U.S. government’s premier international academic exchange program. Each year, it provides opportunities for exceptional Americans and participants from 160 countries and locations to study, teach, and conduct research abroad, advancing knowledge, science, and industry through international exchange and collaboration.

The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the Institute of International Education recognize Fulbright Top Producing Institutions for valuing global connection and supporting members of their campus communities across the United States to pursue international opportunities.

Established in 1809, Miami University is located in Oxford, Ohio, with regional campuses in Hamilton and Middletown, a learning center in West Chester, and a European study center in Luxembourg. Interested in learning more about Global Initiatives? Visit the website for more information.
