Keeping our online documents accessible is about creating a welcoming online environment for all
As part of our work to meet updated Title II regulations under the Americans with Disabilities Act, the AccessMU Center implemented GrackleScan to review our growing digital footprint.
The software is currently scanning around 10,000 public PDFs across our primary website to ensure posted materials are accessible. This initiative is a collaborative effort alongside University Communications and Marketing, working directly with campus groups that manage large online document repositories. These accessibility requirements apply to all public web pages across our web presence, including sites hosted on sites.miamioh.edu.
Why GrackleScan?
Developed by GrackleDocs, GrackleScan is an automated web scanning tool that runs behind the scenes to continuously locate and review uploaded PDFs against key digital accessibility standards like WCAG and PDF/UA. Catching accessibility barriers automatically helps content creators fix issues early instead of waiting for user feedback. Continuous tracking allows departments to clean up outdated files and build better document creation habits over time.
Ultimately, keeping our online documents accessible is about creating a welcoming online environment for all.
If you manage web content for your department or student group, the AccessMU Center offers plenty of resources to help you make your digital content accessible. You can attend our "Accessibility Fundamentals" drop-in sessions for one-on-one guidance, with details listed on the university events calendar. You can also dive into self-paced tutorials and step-by-step guides on the AccessMU Center's training page.
Taking advantage of these tools helps ensure our shared digital spaces remain open and accessible to everyone.
