The Department of Biological Sciences educates students to use principles of biology to solve problems in human health and the environment. Applied Biology equips students with the tools needed for careers in health sciences, biomedicine, ecology, or conservation. Through hands-on labs, undergraduate research, internships, and close collaboration with faculty, students gain the technical knowledge, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and field experiences needed to succeed in careers across the life sciences. Whether entering the workforce or continuing to graduate or professional school, Applied Biology graduates leave with the experience and confidence to make an immediate impact.

Biological Sciences Programs

As one of the first Polytechnic programs at Miami University Regionals, Applied Biology offers multiple career-focused pathways including two specialized concentrations — Environmental Biology and Human Biology & Health Sciences — and a B.S. in Applied Biology + Master of Athletic Training so students can align their education with their interests and future careers.

B. S. in Applied Biology: Environmental Biology

The Environmental Biology concentration combines biology, chemistry, and geology with real-world experiences to prepare you for careers in environmental protection, sustainability, wildlife conservation, biodiversity, and other environmental fields. You'll develop the scientific knowledge and practical skills needed to address today's environmental challenges and create solutions for the future.

B. S. in Applied Biology: Human Biology & Health Sciences

The Human Biology & Health Sciences concentration provides hands-on, career-focused learning that builds a strong foundation in the biological sciences while preparing you for careers in healthcare and biomedical industries or advanced study in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and other health professions.

B. S. in Applied Biology + Master’s of Athletic Training

Start your path to becoming an athletic trainer with a direct route to graduate study. You'll earn a B.S. in Applied Biology while building the knowledge, skills, and professional connections needed for success. Upon graduation, qualified applicants are guaranteed admission to Miami University's Master of Athletic Training program, creating a seamless path to your career.
