Are scholarships available for study abroad??
Yes, scholarships are available for some study abroad programs through the Office of International Education.

Can I use my Miami University Scholarships abroad??
It depends on the study abroad program you select. Co-sponsored programs allow you to use your Miami scholarships for the tuition portion of the program fee. Scholarships can be used only once for the semester. Typically, Miami scholarships cannot be used for summer study abroad programs.

Can I use my federal student loans, state grants, parent loans, or private loans abroad?
Students can use federal student loans, parent PLUS loans, and private loans for study abroad. You can use your state grant (OCOG) if you are being billed through Miami for an exchange or sponsored program or if you are doing study abroad through another Ohio public college/university.

How can I determine if my program is listed as approved, co-sponsored, exchange, or sponsored?

What paperwork is required?
You are required to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), a completed Study Abroad Consortium/Contractual Agreement, a Transfer Credit Approval Form, a copy of your official class schedule, and any other document(s) requested.

When should I complete my paperwork?
You should begin submitting your paperwork at least two months in advance of the start of your program—earlier, if possible.

What is a Transfer Credit Approval Form?
Your academic adviser will complete the Transfer Credit Approval Form, indicating that the credit(s) you earn from your study abroad program will be accepted at Miami University.

What is a host school?
The host school is the school where you complete your study abroad.

What is proof of enrollment?
Proof of enrollment can be an official class schedule or verification of enrollment from your host school on their official letterhead.

Can my parents sign my paperwork for me?
Yes, if they have a notarized Power of Attorney (POA) granting them authority to act on your behalf while you are studying abroad. When you cannot sign paperwork and your parents sign on your behalf, a copy of the Power of Attorney should be submitted with your paperwork.

Does Miami offer assistance with airfare?
Yes, through the Study Abroad Airfare Grant.

How do I get my money for my study abroad experience?
After all required documents are processed, funds for your study abroad are disbursed to your Bursar account in accordance with Miami's disbursement schedule.
