Task Force for the Prevention of Sexual Assault

Miami University has addressed the topic of sexual assault several times in recent years with the intent to strengthen safety, increase awareness, and encourage a respectful and supportive campus community.

Last fall, following an inappropriate and threatening communication in a residence hall, Miami President David Hodge commissioned a Task Force for the Prevention of Sexual Assault. Goals included educational efforts, evaluation and enhancement of the university's direct response to incidents, and support for long-term solutions.

Charge


Members of the Task Force were charged with the following tasks:

  • Identify ways to enhance the effectiveness of Miami's educational efforts and responses regarding sexual assault prevention and reporting
  • Recommend ways to increase awareness and response to address the connections between drugs and alcohol and sexual violence
  • Examine the connection to the larger patterns of aggression in our society
  • Recommend ways for members of the community to take responsibility for building a culture of inclusion and safety
