This summer, spend five weeks you'll remember for a lifetime with Miami University's Intensive French Study in Dijon Summer Workshop. Offered by the Department of French and Italian, this highly successful program gives students the opportunity to immerse themselves totally in the French experience while working in small seminars with an emphasis on discussion and participation. Students take 9 credit hours of classes. Weekly excursions are tied to classroom studies and are part of your credit hours.

Location
Possessing a rich artistic and culinary tradition, Dijon is a beautiful small city located among rolling vineyards in the historic heart of Burgundy, just an hour and a half from Paris and two and a half hours from Geneva, Switzerland. The city offers a wonderful variety of cultural activities including cinemas, concerts, plays, art exhibits in the setting of a smaller city that students come to know well during their five-week stay. Participants live in dormitories alongside French university students, and take classes on the campus of the Université de Bourgogne, Dijon. Students have access to University's facilities including computer rooms with high speed internet access. Campus is a 15 minute walk from the city center, or students can take the newly-constructed tramway from campus to a number of different destinations throughout the city.
Eligibility
Any student who has completed FRE 301, FRE 202 or its equivalent, and have strong French skills, by the Summer of the program is eligible for admission, depending on space available. Students applying for study abroad must have a minimum GPA of 2.25 and no disciplinary record, past or current.

Excursions
Tuition costs and program fee include weekly excursions to sites of cultural and artistic significance in the Burgundy and Champagne areas. Faculty lead the trips and offer detailed commentary. Specifics vary from year to year, but normally include visits to Romanesque churches in Tournus, Vézelay, Cluny, Fontenay. Other destinations include local vineyards, chateaux, and wine cellars in Beaune. Students travel by train or in comfortable tourist coaches and take their meals picnic-style in the countryside.
