Associate Professor of Strategic Communication

Hongmei LiDr. Hongmei Li (University of Southern California, PhD) is an Associate Professor of strategic communication at Miami University. She has published widely in the areas of advertising and consumer culture, Chinese culture and society, gender and sexuality, national branding and public diplomacy, global communication, and culture of new communication technologies. Her research appears in leading communication journals such as Communication Theory, Public Relations Review, Critical Studies in Media Communication, and International Journal of Communication, and in various book collections. She is the author of Advertising and Consumer Culture in China (Polity, 2016) and editor of The Middle Class in Emerging Societies. She is also the co-editor of a special issue on Building the BRICS: Media, Nation Branding and Global Citizenship, published by the International Journal of Communication in summer 2016.

She worked as an editor and copyright manager at the Central Translation and Compilation Press in Beijing before pursuing her PhD at the University of Southern California. She was a George Gerbner Postdoctoral fellow at the Annenberg School for Communication, the University of Pennsylvania in 2008-2010.
