We provide the Healthy Miami Premium Discount Program to all benefit-eligible employees and their spouses covered under Miami's health plan.

By encouraging regular, preventive health activities, we incentivize pro-active and healthy behaviors (e.g., remaining tobacco-free) and allow you to reduce the cost of your health insurance premiums.

Applying the Discount

You complete the program steps between January 1 and November 15 in a calendar year. You then qualify for the premium discounts for the following calendar year.

When Enrolling in Health Insurance Coverage

The application of the discount varies based on when you and/or a spouse enroll in coverage.

  • If your coverage becomes effective between January 1 and June 30, you automatically receive the discount for that year, but must complete the program in the current year for the discount in the following year. For example, if your coverage becomes effective February 1, 2017, you automatically qualify for the premium discount during 2017. To receive the discount in 2018, however, you must complete the required steps during 2017.
  • If your coverage becomes effective between July 1 and December 31, you will automatically receive the discount for the remainder of the current year and also for the following year. For example, if your coverage is effective August 1, 2017, you automatically qualify for the premium discount during 2018.

Discount Amounts

Your discount is deducted from your insurance premiums. The amount you have deducted is based on which premium discount program requirements you have completed.

Completed only the tobacco free certification (TFC)

Monthly (12 pays): $15.00/month
Monthly (Faculty 10 pays): $18.00/month
Biweekly (24 pays): $7.50/paycheck

Completed only the healthy requirements, not the TFC

Monthly (12 pays): $45.00/month
Monthly (Faculty 10 pays): $54.00/month
Biweekly (24 pays): $22.50/paycheck

Completed none of the requirements

Monthly (12 pays): $60.00/month
Monthly (Faculty 10 pays): $72.00/month
Biweekly (24 pays): $30.00/paycheck

If spouse is covered under your health plan, Healthy Miami deductions are based on Premium Discount Program requirements not completed by the spouse.

Required Steps

The steps you are required to complete in a year to receive premium discounts varies by age and gender. The table below provide details for which preventive health steps you must complete to receive the insurance premium discount. Individuals that cannot complete the base steps may have their physician submit a Medical Exemption (PDF 194 KB) to qualify for a portion of the premium discount. Please contact Benefits & Wellness at 513-529-3492 if you have any questions regarding the medical exemption.

Please note: We base our frequency of screenings on recommendations by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
