Quality Initiative Report

During years five through nine of the 10-year cycle, Miami must propose, complete and report on a major quality initiative or project which aims to advance the institution to address present concerns or aspirations. 

A quality initiative is intended to allow universities to take risks, aim high, and learn from successes and failures. To meet this requirement, an institution may: (1) design their own quality initiative, (2) choose from a menu of topics provided by HLC, or (3) participate in an HLC-facilitated program such as the Academy for the Assessment of Student Learning or the Student Success Academy.

For this accreditation cycle (2020-2023), Miami designed its own Quality Initiative Project: Optimizing the Academic Program Portfolio. Miami's project included four interrelated programs:

• Boldly Creative — which provided funding for innovative, net-revenue-generating academic programs;
• Academic Program Evaluation, Improvement and Prioritization (APEIP) — a comprehensive evaluation of all current academic programs;
• Miami Academic Program Incubator (MAPI) — a consultation service for all new academic programs and also serves as an optional service for programs undergoing major revisions; and
• Miami's Academic Program Review — which has been revised into a new, more holistic process called Department Planning and Improvement.

Miami’s QI project aligns with the third criterion for HLC accreditation as well as with the MiamiRISE strategic plan, particularly its recommendations for curricular innovation and review and a new academic program review process.

Miami University submitted its Quality Initiative Project Report in fall 2022, and it was approved by the Higher Learning Commission in May 2023. The next Quality Initiative project will occur between 2030 and 2034.

Multi-Campus Report

As part of a Comprehensive Evaluation, HLC requires that institutions in the Open Pathway that have one or more regional campuses must submit a report. This report offers an overview of operations at Miami Regionals and focuses specifically on differences between Oxford and the Regionals. During the Site Visit, peer reviewers will also visit the Regional Campuses to evaluate their quality. 

Federal Compliance Filing

The Federal Compliance Report demonstrates that the institution is meeting their Title IV program responsibility, as well as complying with the expectations of specific regulations set by the U.S. Department of Education. Compliance with these federal requirements is necessary for Miami to remain eligible to receive federal financial aid. As a federally recognized accrediting agency, HLC is required to conduct this review as part of a comprehensive evaluation.
