Bargaining Update Jan. 17, 2024

The University and the Union met for collective bargaining negotiations on Jan. 17, 2024. To begin the session, the Union withdrew its proposal on Departmental Workload Policies, which it presented to the University at the Dec. 19, 2023, session. Upon presentation of its Departmental Workload Policies proposal, the University informed the Union that the proposal involved a prohibited subject of bargaining. As such, the University requested that the Union withdraw this proposal.

After withdrawing its Departmental Workload Policies proposal, the Union presented counter proposals on Separability and Dues Deduction, and the University presented counter proposals on Grievance and Arbitration and Academic Freedom.

In the afternoon, the University presented a counter proposal on Dues Deduction and held to its Nov. 1, 2023, counter proposal on Separability. The University also rejected the Union's Dec. 6, 2023, proposal on the Evaluation, Reappointment, and Review of the President, Provost, Deans, Assistant/Associate deans, and Chairs/Directors. Additionally, the Union presented new proposals on Health Insurance, Dental Insurance, Vision Insurance, and Parking and Commuting

The University and the Union closed the session by finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding extending the terms of the parties' MOU regarding the Continuation of Certain Committee Activities through Aug. 1, 2024. The original MOU was set to expire on Jan. 26, 2024 unless extended by mutual agreement of the parties.

The parties will meet next on Jan. 31, 2024.
