Bargaining Update June 17, 2024

The University and the Union met on June 17 for continued collective bargaining negotiations for a faculty contract. The Union presented counter proposals on Faculty Evaluations, Appointment, and Promotion Tenure-Track and Tenure Faculty, Intellectual Property, Copyright and Online Course Content, Association Rights, and Academic Freedom.

The University presented counter proposals on Appointment, Promotion and Renewal of TCPL Faculty, Grievance and Arbitration, and Discipline and Discharge. The University also rejected the Union’s Feb. 21 Maintenance of Policies and Practices proposal.  The University also provided the Union with responses to its questions relating to the University’s Compensation proposal and its Appointment, Promotion and Renewal of Tenure-Track and Tenured Faculty proposal.

The parties also discussed the status of the AI Taskforce. The University explained to the Union that, consistent with FAM's demand that the University cease and desist the activities of the AI Taskforce due to alleged direct dealing with bargaining unit faculty and librarians, the University moved forward with the taskforce without those members. The University values the engagement of its bargaining unit faculty and librarians and would welcome their re-engagement. However, in order for this to happen, FAM needs to provide the University with written assurance that it does not consider such engagement to be direct dealing in violation with any obligation to work through FAM as the elected representative of the bargaining units.

The parties have scheduled additional bargaining sessions for July 10, Aug. 7, and Aug. 24.
