American Red Cross certification courses are designed to help individuals and families overcome reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening emergencies such as respiratory or cardiac problems, sudden illness, and injuries to infants, children, or adults. These are non-credit classes.
Course Types
New: For people who have not taken the class before or who want to review all skills
Recertification: For people who have current certifications and wish to review critical skills
Note: you must bring your current certification to the first class
Water Safety Instructor: For people who would like to teach swim lessons to children of all ages in the American Red Cross Water Safety Program
Lifeguard Instructor: For people who would like to get certified to teach the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED Essentials, Lifeguard Management, and First Aid
Spring Courses 2021
CPR/AED
CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid Basics
American Red Cross certification courses are designed to help individuals and families overcome reluctance to act in emergency situations. Learn the skills to recognize and care for life-threatening emergencies such as respiratory or cardiac problems, sudden illness, and injuries to individuals of all ages. These are non-credit classes.
New Certification
RecertificationFor people who have not taken the class before or who want to review all skills. This 8-hour course teaches CPR/AED, rescue breathing, obstructed airway, choking care, basic first aid and bleeding control. All skills are taught for adult, child, and infant care. New CPR/AED books and pocket masks are provided to participants on the first day of class.

Recertification
Successful completion of this 4-hour course will renew certifications for individuals who possess current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid Basics certifications. This class is not intended to re-teach skills; rather it is designed to address the higher points of the course and test participants' knowledge and skills.

Lifeguard

Prerequisite
Successful completion of one of these classes is mandatory before participants may register for the new Lifeguard Training course listed below.
Participants must be 15 (by the completion of the new Lifeguard Training Course) and will be asked to swim continuously for 300 yards using rhythmic breathing during freestyle and/or breaststroke (goggles permitted).Participants then must tread water for two minutes using only legs. Lastly, participants will retrieve a 10-pound brick from 10 feet of water, swim the brick 20 yards back to the side of the pool, and get out of the water without using the ladder or stairs. This must be completed in less than 100 seconds (goggles not permitted).

New Certification
These classes teach the necessary skills to guard at an aquatic facility. Successful participants will receive CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguard and First Aid Training certifications. Absence from any class will result in a failure of the course and forfeiture of registration fee. Instructors are not permitted to make up missed material with participants. New Lifeguard Training books and pocket masks are provided.
Prerequisite
Successful completion of the Lifeguard Training Prerequisite. Must attend all class dates and times listed.

Recertification
Successful completion of this course will renew lifeguard training, CPR/AED and First Aid certifications. This class will update participants on the new American Red Cross 2017 lifeguard guidelines and the 2017 CPR/AED guidelines. Participants should be prepared to take a written and water skill test.
Prerequisite
Must bring proof of current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguard Training and First Aid certifications to 1st class

Instructor Training
Water Safety Instructor Training
Completion of this course will allow participants to teach swim lessons to children of all ages in the American Red Cross Water Safety Program. It also will certify the participant in the FIT program. The fee includes all manuals.
Prerequisite
Must be at least 16 years old, pass the 60-question written test and perform a list of skills, proving an ability to swim all four strokes decently and be in good health.

Lifeguard Instructor Training
Successful completion of this course will certify participants to teach the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED Essentials, Lifeguard Management and First Aid classes. Fee includes LGI instructor Manual and FIT manual.
Prerequisite
Must be at least 17 years old, pass the pre-course written examination (60 questions) with a minimum of 80%, demonstrate CPR/AED and First Aid skills, and pass the prerequisite swimming skills, rescue skills, and scenarios test.
