Facilities
Expansions and Improvements
Phase 1
In 2012, Miami committed funds for Phase I construction which elevated the equestrian center 8 feet, adding 60,000 cubic yards of fill to raise the site out of the flood plain.
Site Improvements
- A 14,000 square foot barn expansion that is equipped with a fire suppression sprinkler system
- 58 stalls one of which is equipped with cameras to provide 24 hour watch on a horse as needed
- Four wash stalls with hot & cold water, two of which are equipped with radiant heat
- A team tack room with show trunks, lockers and access to personal saddle racks
- A school tack room with 45 saddle racks and 120 bridle racks
- A laundry room with two industrial washers and dryers and ice machine
- 150' x 300' outdoor riding riding arena with state of the art of footing, irrigation and drainage
The current site upgrades have been designed to support an indoor arena without major changes to the existing footprint.
Phase 2
We are working with University Advancement with fundraising for Phase II which would provide the equestrian team and students enrolled in classes an indoor to practice and learn in year-round regardless of the weather. Additional opportunities such as enhanced course offerings, growth in community programming, and the ability to host events and offer facility rental would also be available.
The second phase of this project would provide a building that would house
- An indoor riding arena
- Classrooms
- Offices
- Viewing lounge and concession area
- Locker room and rest rooms

Miami Horse Herd
The equestrian center is home to approximately 50 horses that offer a broad spectrum of educational opportunities in dressage, western and hunt seat riding. The horse herd is made up of a variety of breeds such as warm-bloods, quarter horses, thoroughbreds, appaloosas and paints. The University strives to maintain a top-of-the-line horse herd to serve a variety of levels of riders.
Donate Your Horse
Many of the horses are generous donations that have been competitively shown or are brought along with the guidance of the Miami University Equestrian Program. If you have interest in donating a horse to Miami please contact Heather Pinnick burrahe@miamioh.edu for additional information.
Board Your Horse at Miami
We offer Miami Equestrian students the opportunity to board their privately owned horse at Miami from May 1-November 30 with a possibility of spring boarding dependent on weather. Board includes full care: stall cleaning, turnout, three feedings a day and hay, grain and bedding will be provided by Miami. All veterinary and farrier care will be scheduled through the directors at Miami but will be paid for by the owner. All riders and horses will be approved and must have liability waivers completed before arriving.
All horses boarded at Miami must be in a consistent work program. Lessons are available from one of Miami's Equestrian Team coaches on a weekly basis. Jumping is only permitted in lessons. All horses must have current coggins and we will provide you with a list of vaccinations that must be current. The board is $525.00 per month.
