Tasha Anderson (Ph.D.)Hello, my name is Tasha Anderson, and I am a Ph.D. Student focusing on Ordovician orthocone cephalopods. I’m working to better understand how these ancient animals moved and lived in the oceans hundreds of millions of years ago. My projects involve creating detailed 3D digital models of their bodies and shells and building robotic versions that can “swim” in the water. I have a background in 3D imaging along with a degree in Biology. Advisor: Dr. David Peterman Lab: 144 SHD |

Mehrnaz Khalkhali (Ph.D.)I'm a Ph.D. student with a concentration in seismology in the fascinating realm of geology. My research focuses on enhancing automated techniques for characterizing Swarm and Mainshock-Aftershock earthquakes within the Mexico subduction zone. My academic journey began with a Bachelor's degree in Physics, followed by a Master's degree in Astrophysics, allowing me to explore subduction-related seismicity via a multidisciplinary lens. Advisor: Dr. Mike Brudzinski 029 Shideler Hall

Michael Mbah (Ph.D)I am a Ph.D. student in Geology. My research focuses on acid mine waste, clay mineralogy, and mineral-water interactions to understand geochemical processes and contaminant mobility in mining-impacted environments. I earned my M.S. in Geology from Texas Christian University. My broader research interests include environmental geochemistry, igneous petrology, critical minerals, and economic geology, with an emphasis on applying geochemical techniques to understand Earth processes and resource-related environmental challenges. Advisor: Dr. Mark Krekeler 029 Shideler Hall |

Emma Mroz (Ph.D.)Hello, I am a Ph.D. student focusing on lunar geology! Currently, my research focus is analyzing lunar breccias and other lunar meteorites in the Karl E. Limper Geology Museum collection at Miami University. I earned my B.S. in Geology with a minor in Computer Science from Texas A&M University-Kingsville. My broader research interests include the petrology of Mars, igneous petrology, GIS, and critical minerals with an emphasis on their applications to aid in our Advisor: Dr. Claire McLeod |

Muzila Nchimunya (Ph.D)Hello, my name is Muzila Nchimunya, I am a PhD student and Graduate Assistant graduate assistant in Geology. I completed my B.S. in Agricultural Soil Science at the University of Zambia and my M.S. in Biology at Georgia College & State University. My previous research focused on phytoremediation of heavy-metal contaminated soil; microbial and chemical characterization of drinking groundwater systems at the intersection of sanitation, geology, in urban and peri-urban communities in developing countries; and the effectiveness of restored and created wetlands in areas impacted by kaolinite mining activities. My current research interests focus on the environmental impacts of mining, with particular emphasis on gold mining and mercury use, critical minerals, environmental geochemistry, and mineralogy. Renie Thomas (Ph.D.)Hi, I am a PhD candidate and a Graduate Assistant. My current research investigates groundwater-surface water interactions, with particular focus on the hydrology of groundwater-fed fen systems. I hold a BSc (Hons.) and MSc degrees in Geology from Ferguson College, University of Pune, and bring 13.5 years of professional experience working at the intersection of Groundwater Dependent Ecosystems (GDEs), geocognition and watershed management using systems thinking to understand and address water security and environmental risks. My research interests include ecohydrogeology, isotope hydrology, socio-hydrogeology, geocognition and geoscience education. Advisor: Dr. Jason Rech |
