Annie-Laurie Blair

Annie Blair had a 19-year career as a journalist at five daily news media – most recently, The Cincinnati Enquirer/ – and one news magazine. She joined Miami in 2004, but continues to work as a multimedia journalist.

At Miami, she is a faculty affiliate of the Institute for the Environment and Sustainability, and the Honors Program.

She has been integrally involved in quantitative literacy, curriculum and science communication initiatives at the university. Annie serves on the College of Arts and Science curriculum committee and Center for Teaching Excellence faculty committee, as well as the Mill Creek Watershed Council board in Cincinnati.

Annie spearheads the Journalism gateway course News Reporting and Writing I, and teaches a range of other courses, including Environmental Reporting, Environmental Communication (for science majors) and Capstone in Political Journalism media partnership. In summer, she teaches in Miami’s Florence, Italy, program; during the 2017-’18 school year, she will be a professor-in-residence at Miami’s Luxembourg campus.

Education: M.S. in journalism from Boston University, B.J. in news writing from University of Missouri School of Journalism, and B.A. in political science from University of Missouri, Columbia. Certificates include data visualization (UC Berkeley) and computer-assisted reporting on the environment (Investigative Reporters & Editors). Annie was a fellow at the Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism at Arizona State, and at the Institute for Justice and Journalism, then at University of Southern California. Her reporting awards include several New York and Ohio Associated Press First Place honors, as well as some of Gannett Co.’s highest honors – a Top Well Done Award for team investigative reporting and team Freedom of Information Award.
