Annie-Laurie Blair

Annie Blair had a 19-year career as a journalist at five daily news media – most recently, The Cincinnati Enquirer/Cincinnati.com – and one news magazine. She joined Miami in 2004, and continues to work as a multimedia public affairs and green journalist - often with her student reporters.

At Miami, Blair directs the study away Inside Washington semester and summer programs. She also teaches in Miami study abroad programs in Luxembourg, Florence, Italy; and Costa Rica.

Blair is a faculty affiliate of Miami’s Institute for the Environment and Sustainability, Center for Teaching Excellence and Honors Program. She is advisor to Miami student media Up fashion & culture magazine , which has been honored several times in SPJ Mark of Excellence contests, and GreenhawksMedia.net

Initiatives at the university that Blair has been integrally involved in include curriculum innovation, science communication and quantitative literacy. She teaches a range of courses, including News Reporting and Writing I, Advanced Storytelling through Food, Political Journalism, the interdisciplinary Washington Community (in D.C.), Foreign Correspondence/International Journalism, Environmental Reporting, and Environmental Communication (for science majors).

Blair has a master's degree in journalism from Boston University; a bachelor's degree in news writing from University of Missouri School of Journalism; and bachelor's degree in political science from University of Missouri, Columbia.

Certificates include data visualization (UC Berkeley) and computer-assisted reporting on the environment (Investigative Reporters & Editors). Annie was a fellow at the Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism at Arizona State, and at the Institute for Justice and Journalism, then at University of Southern California.

Blair's reporting awards include several New York and Ohio Associated Press First Place honors, as well as some of Gannett Co.’s highest honors – a Top Well Done Award for team investigative reporting and team Freedom of Information Award.

She lives in the Clifton neighborhood of Cincinnati with her family, and serves on the board of Slow Food Cincinnati.
