In Black Creek Scout Reservation BioBlitz: A Vascular Plant Species Inventory GFP graduate Jed Hewitt joined a team of scientists, naturalists, Boy Scouts and volunteers for a one-day botanical BioBlitz (a study of species in a particular time and place) at Black Creek Scout Reservation, a camp owned by the Coastal Georgia Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Hewitt provided guidance to the Bioblitz team who explored and inventoried the botanical biodiversity of the camp to better understand southeastern U.S. plant communities and provide a vision for future land management goals. This inaugural BioBlitz was successful at documenting plant species and providing opportunities for future science-based scouting programs and enhanced environmental education experiences.
