The Miami University Department of Music encourages its students to develop their relationship to the discipline of music as they explore the world through the lens of a superb liberal arts education.
CHRISTINE HOUSE-SHUMWAY, Violinist, is Director of the Virginia Pierce-Glick Young Musicians' Program at Miami University and a member of the Oxford Arts Trio. She is a native of Okemos, Michigan, and received the Master of Music in Violin Performance from the University of Michigan as a student of Camilla Wicks, and the Bachelor of Music from Washington State University, where she performed as a member of the Contemporary Arts Trio. She has studied violin performance with David Cerone, Lyman Bodman and Alan Bodman, violin pedagogy with Robert Culver, chamber music with members of the Juilliard String Quartet, and has had Suzuki teacher training. A student at Interlochen, Meadowmount, and the Music Academy of the West, she has also performed at the Bedford Springs Music Festival. Ms. House-Shumway has served on the faculties of the New England Music Camp, the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and the Miami University Chamber Music Institute. She enjoys raising her two children, biking, and performing for weddings, fundraisers and special events.
Lacee Link is a cellist originally from Atlanta, Georgia where she earned her undergraduate in music performance on the John and Linda Cooke quartet scholarship studying under Charae Krueger. She then went on to Boise State where she was a part of the Graduate String Quartet. During her time there, she played in the Boise Philharmonic as a substitute cellist and won first prize in the concerto-aria competition. Lacee has received masterclass instruction from world renowned cellists and teachers such as Zuill Bailey, Dr. Melissa Kraut and Myron Lutzke as well as attended festivals such as Brevard Music Center, Green Mountain Chamber festival and Ascent cello and chamber dual program on scholarship. She is now a graduate assistant at Miami university studying under Dr. Sarah Kim. Alongside performing, Lacee enjoys teaching. She will begin teacher training this fall under Dr. Alice Ann O’Neill through the Suzuki Institute of Music. .
