We aim to collect, preserve, interpret, and exhibit materials relating to the life of William Holmes McGuffey, the McGuffey Eclectic Reader series, the history of Miami University, and 19th-century domestic life and architecture of southwest Ohio.

The ten years McGuffey spent at Miami were his formative and most productive years. Here he proved himself on the lecture platform, in the pulpit, in the written word. By 1833, he was a prominent member of the College of Professional Teachers of the Western Country. Its annual meeting at Cincinnati was the literary event of the year.
