Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering
Today, computers are in everything, everywhere. This fact is making computer scientists and software engineers indispensable. They are the ones leading the way in developing the next generation systems of mobile apps, virtual reality software, and computational biological analysis. They seek to understand society’s needs and, once they do, they create software systems that make a difference. As more of the world runs on software the need for these people will only continue to grow. CSE majors learn in-depth about cutting edge topics such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer graphics, image processing & computer vision, high performance computing, and cybersecurity. Is it any wonder that growth in the number of software developer positions is expected to increase 25% in the next ten years and that Baron's magazine recently identified Software Developer as "the best job in America" offering a median annual salary of $121,000, low stress, healthy work-life balance, and is "Also in High Demand."
Our Mission and Vision
Our mission is to teach and prepare liberally educated, articulate, and skilled computer scientists and software engineers for leadership and professional careers and for advanced study. A central objective of our program is to contribute to society by advancing the fields of computer science and software engineering through innovations in teaching and research, thus enhancing student knowledge through interactive instruction, global engagement, and experiential learning. The program will serve as a resource to inform society about innovations related to the production and uses of computers and software.
Graduates of the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering will be recognized as innovative leaders in the fields of computer science and software engineering. This recognition will come from their work in software development in a myriad of application areas, as well as through their work in advanced study and research. The faculty is, and will continue to be, known for their passion for teaching and for their knowledge, expertise, and innovation in advancing the frontiers of knowledge in computer science and software engineering.

The Face of Computer Science
The Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering (CSE) offers majors in Computer Science (both a B.A. and a B.S. are offered), Software Engineering, and Cybersecurity.
The Computer Science and Software Engineering Department offers four minors. A CSE Minor is a great way to gain exceptional experience in the field that can encourage furthering your career.
Master of Science in Computer Science
The Master of Science in Computer Science and a Master of Computer Science are both offered. The Master of Science in Computer Science is thesis driven, while the Master of Computer Science is coursework only (non-thesis). Both Master's programs allow for a combined Bachelor's/Master's option in which a student can simulaneously pursue two degrees, saving time and money.
Computer Science and Software Engineering Salaries
The U.S. Bureau of Labor job outlook for computer science and software engineering graduates is excellent and continues to increase. This employment growth is due to the demand for increasing efficiency in network technology, computing speeds, software performance, and embedded systems.
