New Student Transition Survey

The Division of Student Life’s annual transition survey gathers feedback from new first-year and transfer students regarding their overall transition experience during the first four to seven weeks of the semester. The survey was first introduced to campus in fall 2015 and has run every year since, with the exception of fall 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

2025 Survey

The 2025 new student transition survey was open from Thursday, Sept. 18 through Monday, Oct. 13. Eligible students receive the invitation to take the survey through their Miami email account, from Jayne Brownell (StudentLife@MiamiOH.edu). 

The survey takes less than 10 minutes to complete. 

Why It's Important

The new student transition survey provides insight to a number of different areas regarding what new students at Miami are experiencing during their first semester on campus. Every year, results from the survey inform: 

• Content for first-year experiences courses such as UNV 101.
• Orientation messaging and activities related to expectation setting and resources available.
• Social media and email content from Student Life, to better meet student needs. 

Additionally, students who give permission for staff to review their individual responses are connected with targeted campus resources that align with their needs.
