Registration

The Department of Nursing will register you for classes each semester. Once you receive your Miami UniqueID and password, you can view your schedule in Banner. Courses may not appear in Canvas until faculty publish them, typically two to five days before the first day of class.

Textbooks

Purchase required textbooks through Brick & Ivy, Miami's online bookstore. Select the Hamilton campus when searching for courses. All sections will have the same textbooks.

Required Forms

Complete the following DocuSign forms before the first day of the program:

  • FERPA Release
  • Consent to Testing and Information Sharing
  • Clinical Placement Policy

Miami ID Badge

All graduate nursing students must have an MSN or DNP student badge for clinical and practicum experiences. Please submit a current photo during the first week of classes.

Badges are printed out in students' first semester and mailed to students. They are required for clinical rotations. Replacement badges are issued at the student's expense.

A digital Miami ID is optional and may provide access to certain campus resources.

Recommended

Schedule a meeting with Graduate Program Director Jennifer Rode, Ph.D., rodejl@miamioh.edu, to review your plan of study and ask questions.

Preparing for Clinical Experiences

Approximately six months before your first clinical course, you will receive instructions for completing compliance requirements through DISA Healthcare. Requirements include:

  • Immunizations (Hepatitis B, Varicella, MMR)
  • TB testing
  • Physical examination
  • Flu vaccine
  • Urine drug screen
  • State and federal background checks
  • Fit testing
  • Current RN license
  • Current CPR certification
  • Proof of health insurance

You will be assigned a specific compliance window. Completing requirements too early may result in expiration before your clinical placement. Follow the timelines provided to avoid additional testing, costs or delays.

Compliance requirements are typically completed two to three months before the clinical semester begins and must be submitted by the assigned deadline. Late submissions may delay clinical placement and graduation.

During your first semester, the Clinical Placement Coordinator will provide information about the placement process, timelines and frequently asked questions. Before each clinical course, you will be asked to submit two potential preceptor recommendations.
