Mock Interview Program

The Mock Interview Program provides real-world interviewing experience with both seasoned professionals and trained peers.

Prerequisites

Mock Interview Appointment vs. Mock Interview Day

  • A Mock Interview Appointment is conducted between a Miami student interviewee and a professionally-trained Peer Career Coach interviewer. The Mock Interview is designed to interview the student based on their discipline/field of study. Mock Interview Appointments are available Monday – Thursday from 9 a.m.  – 5 p.m. and on Fridays from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • A Mock Interview Day is conducted between a Miami student interviewee and an industry professional (either retired or currently working in their field). Mock Interview Days are only available during specific times of the semester.

Student Mock Interview Day Feedback

“Mock Interview Day was such a valuable and enriching experience for me. It was 100% worth it and I walked away knowing that my interviewing skills had improved. The recruiter I interviewed with was amazing and helped me get as much information as possible from the Mock Interview.

“Mock Interview day is a resource that everyone at Miami should use, every single student of every major can learn something important and useful.”

— John Tomtishen

Mock Interview Appointments

Schedule A Mock Interview Appointment

  • Register for Mock Interviews via Handshake.
  • We highly recommend attending an Interview for Success Workshop prior to a Mock Interview Appointment, but it is not required.
  • Make certain you have an updated resume uploaded to Handshake.
  • The last Mock Interview begins one hour before the latest time listed.
  • In-Person will take place in the Career Center, 0045 Armstrong Student Center
  • If Virtual, Students will receive an invitation for a Zoom Mock Interview in their Miami University email account. Before the interview, make sure the camera and audio on your device is working for the interview. If video is not accessible for the interview inform the Career Center and we will make adjustments with the method of delivery.

“Mock interview day was such a valuable and enriching experience for me. I dreaded coming and did not know if I was going to take away anything important, but it was 100% worth it. I walked away knowing my interviewing skills had improved.

Mock Interview day is a resource that everyone at Miami should use, every single student can learn something important and useful that they will take with them when they interview for a job.”

Zoom FAQs

  1. Open an Incognito Window in Chrome browser by clicking on the three dots in the upper right corner of the screen and selecting Incognito Window
  2. Login into Zoom with your Miami credentials via this link: https://miamioh.zoom.us/
  3. Make sure to select the "Sign In with SSO" option

If you are having trouble signing into Zoom for the Interview for Success Workshop, please consider the below solutions:

Are you trying to log into Zoom with the right information?

Your Zoom login is tied to single sign-on (SSO) through your Miami University credentials, so be sure to select the "Sign In with SSO" option when you're logging in to the Zoom app rather than "Sign In with Google."

Also, when you're prompted to enter Miami's company domain, don't include ".edu". Zoom is asking for our Zoom web portal's URL (miamioh.zoom.us), not your email address.

Are you logging into Zoom through the desktop app rather than your browser?

When you click a link to join a Zoom meeting, a new tab will open, and the desktop app should launch. (It's called "Zoom Client for Meetings.")  Although you'll see a message in that tab that says, "If you cannot download or run the application, join from your browser," you should not click this link. Instead, make sure that you have the desktop app downloaded, installed, and that it launches for your meeting.

If you experience issues downloading, installing, or running Zoom's desktop app on your own computer or a university-owned computer, contact IT Services.

Still have issues?

In case if the above options don't resolve your issue, check the Troubleshooting section of Miami Resources for Students or contact the Miami IT Help Support Desk: (513) 529-7900

No-Show/Late Cancellation Policy for Mock Interviews

A missed mock interview due to a no-show or a late cancellation reflects poorly on you and all students at Miami University. Additionally, it wastes a valuable interview slot for the staff member and for other students seeking an opportunity to practice their interviewing skills. You may cancel your interview online through Handshake up until 11:59 p.m. two business days prior to the interview without penalty.

The following penalties will be imposed if you cancel a mock interview late or do not show.

Late cancellations during an academic year:
  • 1st offense: No penalty is assessed, but your Handshake account is noted.
  • 2nd offense: Your account is blocked from participating in the interviewing process until an email letter of apology to the employer or interviewer is reviewed by the Assistant Director of the Mock Interview Program, Nella Sutyniec. Once approved, the apology must be emailed to the employer or interviewer (cc to nella.sutyniec@miamioh.edu). This must be completed within 30 days or your account is disabled for the duration of the academic year.
  • 3rd offense: Your account is permanently disabled, and you will not have access to any Handshake features for the duration of the academic year. A meeting with the Assistant Director of the Mock Interview Program, Nella Sutyniec, is required.
No-shows during an academic year:
  • 1st offense: Your account is blocked from participating in the interviewing process until a formal letter of apology to the employer or interviewer is reviewed by the Assistant Director of the Mock Interview Program,Nella Sutyniec. Once approved, the apology must be emailed to the employer or interviewer (cc to nella.sutyniec@miamioh.edu). This must be completed within 30 days or your account is disabled for the duration of the academic year.
  • 2nd offense: Your account is permanently disabled, and you will not have access to any Handshake features for the duration of the academic year. A meeting with the Assistant Director of the Mock Interview Program, Nella Sutyniec, is required.
