Welsh Awarded 'Fund for Education Abroad' Scholarship

Emmanuella Welsh

Junior psychology major and digital marketing minor Emmanuella Welsh was named a recipient of the NAFSA Tamara H. Bryant Memorial Scholarship, awarded through the Fund for Education Abroad (FEA).

Welsh will say "Annyeonghaseyo" (Hello) to South Korea this summer, where she plans to study marketing through ISEP Direct Summer in Seoul at Hanyang University.

"I want to work in marketing professionally in the future, but am currently interested in a variety of aspects of the field," she said.

While in South Korea, she is also eager to step out of her comfort zone, hoping to pick up some conversational Korean phrases, try new foods, and make new friends. "Over the years I have grown a love for the country's culture and language through watching dramas and K-pop as well," she said. "However, South Korea is also renowned for excelling in the marketing and entertainment industries. So it was the perfect place for me to learn more about the marketing industry from a new perspective."

At Miami, Welsh is a member of the African Students' Union (ASU) and dances with the AfroStateOfMind dance team. Next month she will be modeling at Miami University Fashion and Design's 17th annual fashion show. She is a Bridges scholar and a resident assistant at Scott Hall.

The Fund for Education Abroad provides two opportunities each year—January and September—for students traditionally underrepresented in study abroad and those with financial need to apply for funding to support study abroad experiences. The funding FEA provides, up to $5000, can make a significant difference in a student's ability to go abroad.

Miami students may contact Karla Guinigundo for more information.
