Planned change: Duo Mobile passcodes will now be more secure

The Information Security Office has identified a painless way to increase security for everyone at Miami.

On Monday, May 5 at 5 p.m., we will be making a change to how the Duo Mobile smartphone app generates one-time codes; this will help us modernize multi-factor authentication (MFA) for everyone at Miami and make your one-time codes more secure. For those folks who use the smartphone app to generate one-time passcodes, those passcodes will now have a thirty-second time limit associated with them.

If you use push notifications in the Duo Mobile app (our recommended method for authenticating with Duo), this change does not affect you. We are simply making it so that the codes generated by the app will expire after 30 seconds, after which a new code will automatically be generated. Currently, there is no time out for these one-time codes.

Thank you for your attention to this matter and for helping us stay secure!
