New phishing attempt: Your password is expiring
The Information Security Office would like to caution the Miami community about a new phishing attempt that is now taking place in some Miami inboxes.
Some users have received an email stating that their password is about to expire. The email appears to urge recipients to react quickly so that they don’t lose access to any accounts. There are two large buttons labeled “Keep My Password” and “Modify Password.”
Please view the following screenshot for a visual example:
This is a scam. Please do not click any links in this message or provide current passwords to outside parties. Miami will never ask for your password for any reason, especially in email.
Please also note that this email has been tagged with a DMARC failure – meaning that after tomorrow, Friday, July 11, hopefully those messages will get caught by our strengthened filters.
Remember: If you receive an email that looks suspicious, it’s better to be safe than sorry - forward the message to InfoSec@MiamiOH.edu, and the information security team will tell you whether it’s legitimate or a fraud.
