Quick Tip: Shared Drives for departmental files
This one is for faculty and staff! Have you ever had a hard time deciding where to save a file in Google Drive? Maybe it’s one that multiple people in your department need access to—a critical training doc, or a spreadsheet of data that’s constantly being updated. Where should those files live?
We recommend that departmental files like this be saved into a Shared Drive. Much like departmental file share space, Shared Drives aren’t “owned” by any specific person—so that if someone leaves the university, you don’t have to worry about those files going away. You can also customize the sharing settings for folders within Shared Drives, so not everyone in the department has access to every file.
Here’s a quick guide to getting started with Shared Drives.
