Reminder: Windows 10 to be out of support in October

Windows 10 will be end-of-life (EOL) on October 14, 2025. Here’s what the Miami community needs to know before that date.

Upgrade your Windows 10 devices now!

We recommend that you upgrade your personal Windows 10 computer before the advertised date (Oct. 14). Here are some quick tips for doing so:

Check to make sure your computer is compatible with Windows 11

There are updated hardware requirements for this new operating system that you’ll want to make sure you take into account. For instance, your computer will need to have at least 4 GB of RAM and a processor that runs 1 gigahertz (Ghz) or faster. Find all the hardware requirements on Microsoft’s website: Windows 11 Specs and System Requirements.

You can also find how to see what specs your computer has currently by following the instructions in this Windows Central article.

Wait until your Windows 10 device is ready for a regular update

The recommended way to install the Windows 11 upgrade is to wait until your Windows 10 device tells you to update. You can also check manually to see if your device is ready for the upgrade.

Use the Windows 11 installation assistant

The installation assistant is available for download on Microsoft’s site. If you have an active Windows 10 license, the installation assistant will walk you through the process of upgrading.

What about your Miami computer?

If you are still running Windows 10 on your Miami-owned computer, reach out to your local tech support personnel and see what their plan is for upgrading your PC. IT Services technicians and departmental technology support representatives will take care of the majority of laptops, desktops, and workstations.

Your local technology support rep can walk you through the process of upgrading your PC if you haven’t already. They have been working with IT Services desktop support folks to make sure you have the best experience during this upgrade.
