Legitimate message: Action needed on your personal laptop

This message is NOT phishing.

A message was sent to Miami students that accidentally logged into Miami's Entra domain when setting up their personal laptops. IT Services has set a deadline of August 27, 2027, for these students to take action so they are not locked out of their personal laptops.

Date: February 26, 2026

Subject line: IMPORTANT: Action needed on your personal laptop

Message content:

Good afternoon,

IT Services is reaching out to let you know of an action you will need to take in order to prevent loss of access to your personal laptop.

According to our records, when you were a student at Miami University, you joined a personal computer to Miami’s Entra domain. This means that when your Miami account is disabled, you may lose access to the device (as in, you will no longer be able to sign into the computer with your Miami credentials).

To keep this from happening, you will need to disconnect your Miami account from your laptop now to prevent being locked out of your personal device. Here are some instructions in our Knowledge Base.

Alternatively, go to the Miami Knowledge Base at MiamiOH.edu/KnowIT and search for “Personal Computer / Disconnect from the Miami Entra domain”.

You will be locked out of your personal computer on August 27, 2027, if you do not take any action. (If you have already disconnected from the Miami domain, you may disregard this message.)

If you need assistance, please contact IT Help at 513-529-7900 or initiate a live chat session at MiamiOH.edu/ITchat. You can also drop in at the Tech Support Lounge in the Armstrong Student Center for hands-on help.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.
