Third Miami AI Symposium scheduled for April 15-16

Third Miami AI Symposium scheduled for April 15-16
Following on the heels of what was a tremendously successful second edition last spring, a third Artificial Intelligence (AI) summit at Miami is set to take place on April 15-16, 2026, in the Armstrong Student Center on the Oxford campus.
Plans for the symposium, titled AI in Action, are still being finalized, but it will be an engaging, action-packed couple of days.
“This year's event brings an even broader variety of events, including an evening special event keynote at the Farmer School of Business and lightning rounds on Thursday with quick, high-impact AI content,” said David Seidl, vice president for Information Technology and chief information officer. “For the first time, we're also formally opening the doors to folks from our regional higher ed community to attend."
This day-and-a-half-long event will include multiple parallel tracks focused on artificial intelligence at Miami, including educational, research, and business uses across the institution, a community AI discussion lunch, and keynote speakers with expertise in AI.
The main keynote address will be provided by Brian Baute, a former university CIO who now helps institutions navigate cloud, AI, and digital transformation at AWS. Brian speaks and writes about the future of higher education cloud strategy and economics, AI, and leadership in complex institutions. His address is titled Human-Led, AI-Powered: How to Thrive in an AI-Native World.
One of the more special parts of this year’s event will be a “Fireside Chat” on Wednesday evening, which will allow for AI discussion in a more informal setting.
"This year's AI Symposium attempts to break away from the theoretical and into the practical,” noted Bob Black, director of IT Process & Planning and a member of the symposium organizing committee. “It is designed to explore ways AI is shaping our lives as learners, teachers, and workers in meaningful ways and many of the limitations and dangers we uncover along the way."
For the second straight year, a poster session will take place in the afternoon of April 15. Once it has been finalized, the complete schedule of events, speaker bios, and pertinent information will be available on the symposium website at MiamiOH.edu/ai-symposium.
Miami faculty, staff, and students are invited to participate in any or all of the sessions.
“We have a cross-institution team helping to make the event bigger and better than our two previous events,” noted Seidl. Similar to the first two symposiums, there are a number of university departments and organizations assisting to make this event as good as it can be, including IT Services, University Communications and Marketing, College of Engineering and Computing, Farmer School of Business, Emerging Technology in Business and Design, Office of Residence Life, and the Office of Research & Innovation.
