Miami SSO coming to select AI tools
Beginning in the first part of October, Miami will be enabling Single Sign-On (SSO) for supported OpenAI and Anthropic services associated with the MiamiOH.edu domain.
Once SSO is enabled, users who have created OpenAI and Anthropic accounts with their Miami email will be able to authenticate through Miami's existing identity and authentication infrastructure. This means users will be directed to the familiar Miami sign-in experience and will use their Miami credentials rather than maintaining a separate password for the applicable AI service.
For both of these services, enabling SSO should not disrupt existing accounts or previously established access. The preservation of existing user access is an important objective of this implementation. However, because individual accounts may have been created in different ways, users may notice changes to the sign-in process once SSO is activated. Additional guidance will be provided, if needed, regarding existing accounts, personal versus institutionally managed accounts, and any actions users may need to take.
Enabling SSO provides several benefits, including:
- A more consistent login experience across Miami-supported services
- Reduced reliance on separately managed passwords
- Better alignment with Miami's existing identity and access-management practices
- Improved ability to appropriately manage institutional access to AI services
- A foundation for future management of institutionally supported AI services and accounts
Please note, these changes will only affect authentication and does not mean that every OpenAI or Anthropic account becomes institutionally licensed, supported, or governed by Miami.
