Miami's Geographic Information System (GIS) program is rooted in application. The Natural Areas provide a wonderful training ground for field data collection and trail mapping for our students. Students learn about user experiences with existing maps and signs and then use that information to inform their own creations of updated maps and signs (both in print and online). This ongoing collaboration with the Natural Areas provides needed mapping and asset location information to the Natural Areas manager while also serving to provide a hands-on learning experience for our students.
