The Miami Family Fund strengthens the university’s efforts to provide a safe, well-rounded, vibrant college experience by offering critical support in a variety of areas such as helping make conference attendance and study abroad experiences accessible, empowering students to conduct and present research, as well as supporting cultural events and experiences.
Funding is available for both individual student experiences and group activities. Review the application information below to determine the appropriate funding opportunity and application process.
Additionally, each term has a maximum amount of funds that can be awarded. Once that amount has been reached, no further awards can be given.
To be eligible for a Family Fund grant, students must be undergraduate students enrolled on the Oxford campus. Completing a Family Fund application does not guarantee funding. Applications are reviewed based on eligibility, available funding, and the strength of the request.
For applications to receive full consideration, applicants should thoughtfully respond to all questions and demonstrate effort and intentionality. Copying a program description or other materials verbatim is not sufficient. Applications should be professional, clearly communicate the importance and impact of the experience, and be free from grammatical errors.
Family Fund awards are considered student financial aid and may impact a student’s cost of attendance. Students should consult with the Office of Student Financial Assistance with any questions about how a Family Fund award may affect their individual financial aid.
Funding is limited each term. Once available funds have been awarded, no additional awards can be made during that funding cycle. Applications must be submitted during the correct funding cycle to be considered, and late applications will not be accepted.
For students seeking funding for their own experience
The Family Fund provides individual grants to support eligible student experiences, including study abroad, study away, internships, and conference participation.
To be eligible, students must be undergraduate students enrolled on the Oxford campus. Eligible students can only receive one award for a study abroad/away or internship experience and one award for a conference experience throughout the entirety of their enrollment at Miami University.
All individual applications consider financial need as part of the review process.
Individual Funding Amounts
Study Abroad, Study Away and Internship Funding
Maximum award of $2,500 for fall, spring, or full-year experiences
Maximum award of $1,500 for winter or summer experiences
Conference Funding
Maximum award of $400 for individual student conference participation
Individual Application Deadlines
Individual applications must be submitted by the deadline that aligns with the semester in which the experience occurs.
All Winter Term: Sept. 15 (notified by Oct. 1)
Spring semester abroad/away: Sept. 15 (notified by Oct. 1)
Spring semester conference/initiative: Feb. 1 (notified by Feb. 15)
All Summer Term: Feb. 15 (notified by March 1)
Fall semester abroad/away: April 1 (notified by April 15)
Fall semester conference/initiative: Sept. 1 (notified by Sept. 15)
For student organizations, departments, or groups seeking funding for a shared experience
Completing a Group Funding application does not guarantee that a request will be approved. Group applications must be submitted by a student representative and include a designated faculty or staff contact from the sponsoring office, department, or recognized student organization. For the purposes of Group Funding, a group is defined as five or more students participating in a shared experience and affiliated with a recognized student organization or sponsoring unit.
Groups must clearly identify how requested funds will support the experience. Eligible expenses may include:

Group Funding Deadlines
Group applications are reviewed based on the term in which funding will be used. Priority deadlines are established to ensure full consideration:
Fall and winter semester activities: Priority deadline: Oct. 1 (notification by Oct. 15)
Spring and summer semester activities: Priority deadline: Feb. 1 (notification by Feb. 15)
Following priority deadline reviews, applications may be considered on a rolling basis if funding remains available. Rolling applications must be submitted at least 30 days before the proposed activity date to be considered.
Funding is limited each term and each year. Once available funds have been allocated, no additional awards will be made during that funding cycle.
If funding is approved, the identified faculty or staff contact will coordinate with the Family Fund to facilitate the release of funds and provide a roster of participating students, including student unique IDs, as required for processing.
