Meet the Staff

Headshot of Maria Vitullo.Maria P. Vitullo, J.D., Director 

Vitullo serves as the Director of the Office of Community Standards. She obtained a B.A. from The University of Michigan in 1997, and graduated from The University of Wisconsin Law School in 2000, where she was Managing Editor of The Wisconsin Law Review and a member of the ABA Moot Court Team.

Prior to joining the Office of Community Standards, Vitullo served as Director of the Sue J. Henry Center for Pre-Law Education at Miami. She also practiced at law firms in Chicago, New York, and Cincinnati, focusing her practice in business litigation and labor and employment litigation.

Vitullo was twice named an Ohio Rising Star in Cincinnati Magazine for business litigation, and is a member of the bar in Ohio, Illinois and New York. She is currently earning her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership, focusing her research on student development, restorative justice, and Title IX.

Headshot of Wesley Highley.Wesley Highley, M.A.T.S., Associate Director and Title IX Investigator 

Highley is a 2006 graduate of Miami University with B.S. in Manufacturing Engineering and an M.A. in Theology from Liberty University in 2017.

He returned to Miami as the Title IX Investigator & Student Conduct Case Manager for the Office of Community Standards in August 2018.

He comes to Miami from ten years of service to Housing and Residential Education at the University of Massachusetts – Dartmouth. During his undergraduate career at Miami, Highley was a Resident Assistant, a SOUL, a member of the Club Ultimate Frisbee Team, and a referee at the Goggin Ice Center.

Headshot of Ben Breh.Ben Breh, M.S. Ed, Assistant Director

Breh serves as an Assistant Director in the Office of Community Standards, joining Miami in February of 2022. In his role, he works with and provides support to students experiencing a wide range of challenging circumstances. His professional interests surround acknowledging and repairing harm through alternative dispute resolution and restorative practices.

Breh is a two-time graduate of the University of Dayton graduating with a B.S. in Psychology in 2018 and a M.S.Ed in Higher Education Administration in 2020. He comes to Miami from Drexel University in Philadelphia where he held a position within Housing and Residence Life.

In his downtime, Breh enjoys spending time with his family and friends, and being outdoors.

Headshot of Sarah Cupples.Sarah Cupples, Assistant Director

Cupples graduated from Miami University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

Prior to joining the Office of Community Standards, she was an investigator with Miami’s Office of Equity and Equal Opportunity. Cupples has over 25 years of experience in investigations, social work, and academic research for the military. In her spare time, she enjoys food, dogs, and being outdoors.

Kesha Hilson

Kesha Hilson, Coordinator

Hilson joined Miami as the Community Standards Coordinator in May 2022. She was born and raised in Cincinnati, OH. Hilson is a 2001 graduate of Bowling Green State University with a B.S. in Child and Family Community Services. She comes to Miami with over 12 years’ experience in family case management and client-based services.

In her free time, she enjoys reading, spending time with her family, and listening to a variety of podcasts.

Betsy BodnarBetsy Bodnar, Administrative Assistant

Bodnar joined the Office of Community Standards in July 2023. Prior to that she was with Physical Facilities for six years. She is a 2012 graduate of Ashford University with an A.A. in Early Childhood Development. Before coming to Miami University she spent thirteen years caring for and educating children under the age of five. 

In her spare time, Bodnar enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and her two dogs.

The Office of Student Wellness provides educational resources and services that promote the health and wellness of Miami students. The staff of professionals and peer educators work to raise awareness, coordinate programming initiatives, and influence policy that results in healthy choices.
