Community and Leadership Development

Leadership development is a cornerstone of fraternity and sorority life at Miami University. Through educational programs, service opportunities, and community-wide initiatives, students build the skills, confidence, and experiences needed to lead within their chapters, on campus, and beyond.

New Member Programs

Orientation to Fraternity and Sorority Life

Potential new members are required to complete the course. Those participating in primary recruitment will be added after registering for recruitment.

Strengths workshops are intended for groups with similar goals or purposes to promote teamwork through discovering what strengths each member brings to the group and how you can use them to work together more effectively. Participants take the Gallup CliftonStrengths Assessment prior to the workshop, then receive a customized report that lists their top five talent themes during the workshop.

To request a workshop for your student organization, chapter, class, or leadership team, please email The Wilks Institute for Leadership and Service at WilksInstitute@MiamiOH.edu

UIFI is a four-day, nationally recognized leadership experience focused on values-based leadership, collaboration, and fraternity and sorority community development. The institute is interactive, fun, challenging, and intentional.

UIFI is the preeminent leadership development experience for fraternity and sorority members, and is an experience unlike any other; it is not a conference or a workshop—it is a uniquely holistic journey that you share with other interfraternal brothers and sisters.

Community Service Opportunities

One of the most rewarding aspects of fraternity and sorority involvement is the opportunity to impact the lives of those in the community. Last year, Miami Greeks donated countless hours and thousands of dollars to both local and national charities through service projects and philanthropic fundraisers.

Greek Spring Service

Greek Spring Service is an annual community-wide service initiative in April connecting fraternity and sorority members with volunteer opportunities throughout Oxford and the surrounding region. Participating chapters are assigned a project for the day and transportation is provided (if needed).

ComMUnity Connect

Three students in the woods with various shovels and tools.

Fraternity and sorority members can connect with additional leadership and service opportunities - and track volunteer hours - through Miami's ComMUnity Connect platform.

Chapter Liaison Support

Each chapter works closely with professional staff members who provide guidance, coaching, support, and leadership development throughout the year.
