Dragonfly Regalia Reuse Program
Program Benefits
Donating your graduation attire, or borrowing donated attire, helps us:
- Reduce textile waste in our landfills. While worn an average of just 90 minutes, as many as 5 million commencement gowns end up in landfills each year (earth911.com).
- Foster sustainable wardrobes by improving our relationship with textiles, encouraging greater responsibility by reducing “single use” garments.
- Reduce CO2 emissions from the production of new gowns.
- Offer soon-to-be graduates a way to reduce costs associated with graduation.
Donating Regalia
- Donated regalia should be in clean, wearable-again condition.
- Please only donate regalia that can be worn by future Dragonfly graduates (see image).
- How to Donate:
- At December Commencement: Visit the Project Dragonfly table in the south lobby of Millett Hall after the graduation ceremony (and our group photo!) to donate your gown or other attire. Items may also be brought to Friday evening’s Commencement and Future Building celebration in the Armstrong Student Center.
- Other Times of Year: May graduates, graduates from previous years, and those who’ve gone home without donating their attire and later change their minds, may send their (basically clean, please) regalia to: Project Dragonfly, 111 Upham Hall, Miami University, Oxford, OH 45056.
Borrowing Regalia
Our regalia has been donated to us by previous Dragonfly graduates and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. All items are inspected upon receipt and are considered to be in clean, wearable-again condition. Once your request has been received, we will check inventory, reserve the items for you that we can, and let you know if any requested items are unavailable. Your confirmation message will include information on picking up and returning your items after use.
