Why major in Finance and Accountancy?
When I came to Miami, I knew I wanted to be in finance, but I was afraid of picking a major and then changing it 10 different times. I took the BUS 206 class where they had many different panels about different majors, and I realized there was a great need for accountants. There's a lot of job stability there and it's the language of business. So going into my sophomore year, I decided on finance and accounting, and I'm going to be CPA-eligible by the time I graduate.
What was your favorite part of your most recent internship?
Networking. I had a goal I made in the middle of the summer to network with 100 people at PNC. I had a whole table of who it was, their position, what day I met them, how many times I've met them before, and stuff like that. And I tracked it each week. Even my recruiter said ‘Gina, no one has ever met with that many people before, let alone tracked it.”
What’s your favorite thing you’ve done at the Farmer School of Business?
I really enjoyed working for the First-Year Integrated Core. I think it allowed me to grow in a bunch of different areas. I was able to choose what tasks were best tailored to my strengths, whether that was making spreadsheets, helping with the budget, tracking receipts, or sending out emails. I was able to grow my communication skills and my abilities in reporting to leadership.
