Organization Conduct History

Membership in a student organization should provide students with a safe and productive learning environment that embodies Miami’s Code of Love and Honor.

Terms and Definitions

  • Good standing: Organization is currently recognized and operating without active disciplinary restrictions.
  • Probation: Organization remains recognized but has active restrictions or sanctions.
  • Suspended: Organization is not permitted to operate or participate in university activities.
  • Unrecognized: Organization is not affiliated with or recognized by the university.

Currently Suspended Organizations

The organizations listed below are currently suspended by Miami University and are not permitted to operate as recognized student organizations during their suspension period.

Suspended organizations do not have access to the oversight, education, advising, and support provided through the university, governing councils, and national organizations.

Sigma Pi Found responsible for three violations of the Code of Conduct in April 2022 and was suspended through May 14, 2023; during that time, they were found in violation of sanctions and the suspension was extended. Through June 12, 2028

Conduct history may be posted beyond ten years for chapters not in good standing, if the history is related to their current standing. Older statistics are available back to 2014. Alpha Chi Omega Sorority

Current status: Good standing

  • No violations in the past ten years

Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity

Current status: Probation

  • Spring 2017: Hazing (109). Sanctions include:
    • Disciplinary probation, April 4, 2017 to Nov. 1, 2017
    • Proof that president and executive members attend "Perfect Party" sponsored by IFC
  • April 8, 2017: Prohibited Use of Alcohol (105B). Sanctions include:
    • Disciplinary/social probation, April 26, 2017 to Dec. 15, 2017
    • Two-hour alcohol education/substance abuse program
    • Updated written alcohol policy
  • Aug. 18, 2020: Failure to Comply and Complicity (Mass Gathering). Sanctions include:
    • Disciplinary probation, Oct. 19, 202 to May 31, 2023
  • Spring 2023: Found responsible for fire safety violation. Sanction: Warning
  • Spring 2025: Accepted responsibility for Hazing. Sanctions include:
    • Probation, March 31, 2025 to March 31, 2026

Alpha Phi Sorority

Current status: Good standing

  • Feb. 9, 2017: 117.1 (Residence Hall Policy)(x2), Prohibited Use of Alcohol (105B). Sanctions include:
    • Disciplinary probation, March 3, 2016 to May 15, 2016
    • Chapter and corridor representative to set up a meeting to apologize to the Etheridge Hall Director
    • Attend Hazing, Alcohol, Law and Safety Awareness Program offered by MUPD
    • Work with Panhellenic committee to look at and improve bid week programming expectations for 2017 recruitment
  • Note: Incidents were combined into one hearing

Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity

Current status: Good standing

  • May 11, 2020: Found in Violation of Hazing, Endangering Health and Safety, Prohibited Use of Fermented Alcohol. Sanctions include:
    • Disciplinary probation through May 31, 2023
  • Nov. 5, 2020 Found in Violation of Endangering Health and Safety and Failure to comply. Sanctions include:
    • Suspended, Jan. 1, 2021 to Dec. 31, 2021
    • Probation extended until May 31, 2024

Beta Theta Pi Fraternity

Current status: Probation

  • 2017: The Alpha chapter of Beta Theta Pi was re-colonized at Miami University after being suspended and closed in 2014 by the Beta Theta Pi national headquarters.
  • Spring 2025: Found responsible for retaliation. Snactions include:
    • Probation, June 2, 2025 to June 2, 2026
    • Chapter must develop and host a presentation on Ohio's Collin's Law, the Stop Campus Hazing Act, and how reporting allegations of hazing align with the fraternity's core values. Program to be presented in both the fall and spring semesters of the 2025-2026 academic year.

Chi Omega Sorority

Current status: Good standing

  • No violations in the past ten years

Delta Chi Fraternity

Current status: Good standing

  • Spring 2022: Violation of Law - Fire Safety. Sanctions include:
    • Probation through Dec. 9, 2022

Delta Delta Delta Sorority

Current status: Good standing

  • Oct. 6, 2016: Disorderly Conduct (113). Sanctions include:
    • Required to meet/make arrangements with Shideler Hall staff member before any other meetings/activities are scheduled

Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity

Current status: Good standing

  • March 30, 2017: Prohibited Use of Alcohol (105B). Sanctions include: 
    • Two-hour alcohol education/substance abuse program
  • Spring 2023: Found responsible for Fire Safety Violation. Sanction: Warning

Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity

Current status: Good standing

  • Spring 2022: Violation of Law - Fire Safety. Sanctions include:
    • Letter of reprimand
  • April 2023: Found responsible for Hazing and Violation of Policy. Sanctions include:
    • Probation through April 25, 2025
    • Required chapter education
  • Spring 2024: Alcohol Violations. Sanctions include:
    • Risk management plan
    • Required chapter education

Delta Sigma Pi Organization

Current status: Good standing

  • Oct. 4, 2018: Prohibited Use of Fermented Alcohol/Open Container (105B). Sanctions include: 
    • Create a risk management plan prior to the beginning of spring semester 2019
    • Create an updated New Member Education plan prior to the beginning of the spring semester 2019
    • Not permitted to host events with alcohol through May 18, 2019
    • Disciplinary probation, Nov. 15, 2018 to May 18, 2019
    • Two-hour alcohol education program; attendance at the program is required of 80% of the active members and 100% of the new members.

Delta Tau Delta Fraternity

Current status: Suspended until March 16, 2034

  • March 16, 2019 charges for 103B (Endangering Health and Safety), 105A (Intoxication or Prohibited Use of Liquor), and 109 (Hazing). 
  • Spring/summer, 2019: Found responsible for all three violations; appeals upheld through the University Appeals Board and the Vice President for Student Life. Sanctions include:
    • Suspension, March 16, 2010 to March 16, 2034
    • At any time after March 16, 2029, Delta Tau Delta may petition the University for consideration of an earlier return to campus. 

Delta Upsilon Fraternity

Current status: Good standing

  • No violations in the past ten years

Delta Zeta Sorority

Current status: Good standing

  • April 28, 2017: Other Physical or Mental Abuse or Harm (103B). Sanctions include:
    • Social/disciplinary probation, May 8, 2017 to May 15, 2018. No events with alcohol, whether co-hosted or not, and regardless of the age of the participants
    • Letter of apology to the family affected by members' actions

Evans Scholars 

Current status: Good standing

  • No violations in the past ten years

Kappa Alpha Fraternity

Current status: Probation through May 31, 2026

  • March 9, 2021: Endangering Health or Safety; Violation of Law. Sanctions include:
    • Disciplinary probation, March 9, 2021 to May 31, 2023
    • Chapter must complete 100 community service hours by June 1, 2021
  • April 23, 2022: Failure to comply and violation of the law for noise and trash ordinance violations while on probation. Chapter suspended through May 31, 2023 when they can return as an active chapter on probation and alcohol free through May 31, 2026.

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Current status: Suspended through March 15, 2040

  • Spring 2022: Complicity. Sanctions include:
    • Probation through May 23, 2026
  • Spring 2025: Hazing and Endangering Health and Safety
    • Suspended until March 15, 2040

Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity

Current status: Good standing

  • March 5, 2019: Endangering Health and Safety (103B). Sanctions include:
    • Disciplinary probation, March 5, 2019 to May 18, 2019
    • Walkthrough of the chapter facility by the Oxford Fire Department five times before end of the semester to ensure no fire or safety hazards exist
    • Report and presentation about safe living no later than March 27, 2019
  • April 15, 2021: Hazing, Alcohol Violations, and Endangering Health and Safety. Sanctions include:
    • Disciplinary probation and educational sanctions until May 12, 2023
  • Nov. 11, 2022: Violation of the law, fire safety violations. Sanctions include:
    • Educational sanctions and probation extended until Dec. 31, 2023.

Phi Delta Theta Fraternity

Current status: Probation

  • May 1, 2018: Disorderly Conduct (113). Sanctions include: 
    • Social/disciplinary probation, May 11, 2018 to Oct. 1, 2018 - no events with alcohol, whether co-hosted or not, regardless of the age of the participants
    • Arrange and complete a joint presentation with Pi Kappa Alpha about men and masculinity, the meaning of brotherhood, and how to build community. 80% of chapter membership must be in attendance.
  • Summer 2018: Phi Delta Theta national headquarters closed the Ohio Alpha Chapter at Miami University
  • October 2019: Phi Delta Theta national headquarters begin re-founding efforts on campus
  • Spring 2024: Violation of the law, fire safety violations. Sanctions include:
    • Risk management plan
    • Pay fines to the City of Oxford
    • Replace exit/emergency signs
  • Spring 2025: Alcohol and Hazing violations
    • Probation through May 15, 2027
    • Risk management plan by Sept. 1, 2025 to include, but not limited to, new member activities
    • The entire 2025-2026 active chapter must complete a two-hour alcohol education program by Oct. 10, 2025.

Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity

Current status: Good standing

  • Dec. 2, 2020: Endangering Health or Safety; Violation of Law (Mass Gathering). Sanctions include:
    • Disciplinary probation, Dec. 2, 2020 to May 31, 2023

Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity

Current status: Good standing

  • No violations in the past ten years

Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity

Currently: Probation

  • Spring 2025: Violation of the alcohol policy. Sanctions include:
    • Probation, April 4, 2025-April 4, 2026
    • Chapter education

Phi Mu Sorority

Current status: Good standing

  • April 20, 2018: Prohibited Use of Alcohol (105B) and Retaliation (115). Sanctions include: 
    • Social probation from April 20, 2018 until a two-hour alcohol course is completed by 80% of the active members and 100% of the new members (final deadline Sept. 30, 2018).
    • A 30 minute presentation given to Miami representatives discussing what the chapter has learned and what steps are in place to prevent a similar incident from occurring in the future.
    • Additional requirements as outlined by the Phi Mu national office.

Pi Beta Phi Sorority

Current status: Good standing

  • No violations in the past ten years

Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity

Current status: Good standing

  • No violations in the past ten years

Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity

Current status: Good standing

  • April 22, 2021:Violation of the law. Educational sanctions completed December 17, 2021.
  • Spring 2023: Violation of the law; Fire safety violations. Sanctions include:
    • Risk management plan
    • Required chapter education
    • Completion of headquarters-provided action plan

Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity

Current status: Probation through April 29, 2030

  • April 19, 2018: Hazing (109). Sanctions include: 
    • Disciplinary probation, April 19, 2018 to end of the spring semester in 2019.
    • Membership review, conducted by national organization, with continuation of limits on chapter operation until the review is complete
    • Continuation of current limits on chapter operation until membership review is complete (fall 2018)
    • New risk management plan, hazing intervention programming, and new member education plan, each approved by SAE national and the Cliff Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life
    • Two-page paper from every continuing member (after the membership review), about hazing, hazing prevention, and personal responsibility
  • Jan. 30, 2019: Violation of Sanctions (116). Sanctions include:
    • Disciplinary probation, Jan. 30, 2019 to Jan. 30, 2020
  • Feb. 2023: Damage to Property, Trespass, Endangering Health and Safety. Sanctions include:
    • Probation until May 31, 2024
    • Required chapter education
  • Spring 2025: Violation of Endangering Health and Safety and alcohol violations. Accepted responsibility for hazing. Sanctions include:
    • Probation, April 29, 2025 to April 29, 2030
    • Comprehensive membership review by Aug. 31, 2025
    • Foundational chapter improvement plans
    • Intensive cultural and behavior redevelopment
    • Leadership development and accountability to include executive board retreats, officer training, and national leadership school participation
    • Additional chapter education, support, and oversight to be provided by the Sigma Alpha Epsilon National Headquarters staff and volunteer advisors

Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity

Current status: Good standing

Sigma Chi Fraternity

Current status: Good standing

  • May 26, 2022: Violation of Law - Noise Ordinance. Sanctions include:
    • Risk management plan
  • April 20, 2024: Violation of Law - Damage to fire safety equipment. Sanctions include:
    • Fire safety risk management workshop with the Oxford Fire Department
    • Disciplinary probation, May 3, 2024 to Dec. 3, 2024

Sigma Nu Fraternity

Current status: Good standing

  • No violations in the past ten years

Sigma Pi Fraternity

Current status: Suspended

  • April 17, 2019: Interfraternity Council Mediation Regarding Misconduct During Chapter Formal in Gatlinburg, Tennessee
    • Social suspension, April 17, 2019 to May 16, 2020
    • Chapter house will be dry for the entirety of the social suspension, monitored by random walk-throughs by members of IFC
    • Each member to complete a minimum of three service hours in the fall semester, and the chapter will be required to host one additional philanthropy event that semester
    • An internal membership review of each chapter member must be conducted
    • Repay the cabins for the damages incurred in a timely manner
    • Chapter to host a drug and alcohol seminar; must be attended by every member
    • Violation of the above sanctions will result in an automatic five-year suspension from the Interfraternity Council
  • March 5, 2021: Violation of Law (Mass Gathering). Sanctions include:
    • Disciplinary probation, March 5, 2021 to Dec. 17, 2021
  • April 23, 2022: Damage/Theft of Property, Endangering Health or Safety, and Violation of the Law. Sanctions include:
    • Suspension through May 14, 2023
  • April 2023: Violation of Sanctions for operating as a chapter while suspended. Sanctions include:
    • Suspension extended to June 12, 2028; probation from June 13, 2028 to June 13, 2029

Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity

Current status: Good standing

  • April 2, 2021: Violation of Law (Mass Gathering). Sanctions include:
    • Disciplinary probation, April 2, 2021 to Dec. 17, 2021

Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity

Current status: Good standing

  • No violations in the past ten years

Theta Chi Fraternity

Current status: Good standing

  • May 2019: Endangering Health and Safety (103B). Sanctions include:
    • Probation, Feb. 26, 2019 to May 23, 2020
    • Monthly fire safety inspections in fall 2019
  • Fall 2023: Violation of the Law. Noise Ordinance. Sanctions include:
    • Action plan for hosting events
    • Chapter education plan

Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority

Current status: Good standing

  • Feb. 9, 2017: Prohibited Use of Alcohol (105B). Sanctions include:
