Department of Commerce Advising

The department provides personalized academic advising designed to connect your education with your career goals. Advisors are faculty members, many with extensive private-sector experience, who bring real-world insight to every advising conversation. They work closely with students on academic planning, course selection, degree requirements, internships, and career opportunities, helping them make informed decisions and maximize their applied, career-focused learning experience.

Who is my advisor?

Your academic advisor is the person you should contact with any questions you have about your academic plan.

To find your academic advisor's name and contact information:

  1. Log in to myMiami.
  2. Click your Student tab located near the top of the screen.
  3. Your advisor will be listed in the top, right corner.

If you need immediate assistance and your faculty advisor is not available, contact the advising office.

Special Registration

Take advantage of CMR special registration, which is the same period as your time ticket. CMR special registration was created to allow you the best chance of getting the courses you want and need.

Wait Lists

CMR recommends and supports the use of the wait list for CMR classes that are full.

Waitlisting is a feature that allows students to "get in line" for a spot in a class that’s full. CMR also uses waitlist information to determine when additional sections of a class are needed.

Force Adds

Students may be force added to courses in certain circumstances, primarily to meet major or minor requirements involving a CMR course. Students graduating in that term receive top priority.

The Department of Commerce does not consider the timing of force add requests; submitting a request earlier does not increase the likelihood of enrollment.

Force adding is centralized, instructors do not force add.

Past Commerce Programs

These major is no longer open to new students. Current students enrolled in the program will be able to complete their degree as planned.
