Mike and Anne Armstrong '61

The Armstrong Student Center stands as a lasting testament to the generosity and vision of Mike and Anne Armstrong, both members of Miami University's Class of 1961. Their transformational gift provided support that made the student center possible and helped create a vibrant gathering place at the heart of campus life.

Dedicated in 2014, the Armstrong Student Center serves as Miami's living room: a place where students connect, collaborate, lead, learn, and build community. The facility reflects the Armstrongs' belief that student success is shaped by experiences both inside and outside the classroom.

Mike and Anne Armstrong have long been among Miami's most dedicated supporters. In addition to their leadership gift for the student center, they provided a major gift to establish the Armstrong Institute for Interactive Media Studies (AIMS), an interdisciplinary program that fosters innovation, creativity, and collaboration through emerging technologies. Elements of the institute's collaborative and technology-enhanced approach helped inspire spaces and experiences within the student center.

Mike Armstrong earned a bachelor's degree in business and economics from Miami before building a distinguished career in the telecommunications and technology industries. He spent more than 30 years with IBM, ultimately serving as chairman and CEO of IBM World Trade. He later led Hughes Electronics and AT&T as chairman and CEO and subsequently served as chairman of Comcast's board following its acquisition of AT&T Broadband.

Anne Gossett Armstrong earned a bachelor's degree in education from Miami and has been an active supporter of the university alongside Mike throughout their lives. The couple has three grown daughters: Linda, a '84 Miami graduate, Kristy, and Julie.

Through their generosity and commitment to Miami University, Mike and Anne Armstrong have helped shape the student experience for generations of Miamians. Their legacy lives on each day in the Armstrong Student Center, where students gather to engage, learn, lead, and create meaningful connections.
