Student Employee Recognition Week is a campus-wide celebration of the invaluable contributions made by our hardworking and dedicated student employees.

This week-long event is an opportunity for us to express our gratitude for the outstanding work performed by our student employees and to showcase their talents and accomplishments. Join us as we honor and recognize the vital role that our student employees play in the success of our university community.

Here you'll find all the information you need to participate in this exciting event, including activities, events, and ways to show your appreciation for our student employees.

Calendar of Events

The 2024 Student Employee Recognition Week will happen Monday, April 8 through Friday, April 12. 

Prior to Recognition Week

Supervisors across campus will receive details about the upcoming week’s events to share with student employees and a toolkit to help plan recognition for their direct reports.

Included in this email will be a appreciation form to complete for each employee; the form will generate a customized appreciation letter that includes the recognition week schedule and comments from the supervisor, to be sent on April 8. 

Monday, April 8

Student employees will receive a customized appreciation letter via email which includes the schedule for the week. This email is generated by supervisor submissions to the appreciation form, so students will only receive it if supervisors complete the form. 

Tuesday, April 9

Supervisors are encouraged to post recognition messages on their departmental social media accounts. A social media toolkit is provided.

S'mores and Sweets: Celebrating Student Employees (Oxford)
11 a.m.-2 p.m. 
East Court, Armstrong Student Center (located at the south entrance outside the Atrium)

Stop by for giveaways, iced coffee, boba tea, dessert, music, and s'mores in the outdoor fireplace. Rain location is the Armstrong Atrium. More info about S'mores and Sweets.

Thursday-Friday, April 11-12

Supervisors are encouraged to express their appreciation for student employees with an activity or idea from the supervisor toolkit.

As the supervisor of student employees on campus, you know how important our campus student employees are! This year, Miami University is celebrating Student Employee Appreciation Week from April 8-12. Celebrating your student employees is a great way to show appreciation for their hard work and dedication.

With generous support from the Family Fund is sponsoring some centralized initiatives for Student Employee Appreciation Week. However, you are encouraged to add personalized touches to the week specifically for the students you work most closely with.

Before Student Employee Appreciation Week

  • Create a plan for appreciating your student employees during Student Employee Appreciation Week with others of your staff who may interact with or supervise student employees.
  • Complete the Student Employee Appreciation Form to let each of your employees know how much you appreciate them. Forms completed by Friday, April 5 are most helpful.
    • Here’s an example of the email student employees will receive.

      Dear [student first name],

      Happy Student Employee Appreciation Week! Thank you for all the work you do with the
      [Department/Office the Student Works With]. Your supervisor, [Supervisor First Name], wanted to share this message of appreciation with you:

      [Note of Appreciation]

      In addition, we hope you'll consider attending the S'mores and Sweets event on campus this week. 

      S'mores and Sweets. 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Armstrong East Court (outside the Atrium). The event will feature giveaways, iced coffee, dessert, music, and s'mores in the outdoor fireplace. Students will also have the opportunity to write a note of appreciation for their supervisor. Free!

During Student Employee Appreciation Week

  • Repost/reshare social media messages from the @miamiuniversity and @MiamiOH_StudentLife Instagram pages or post your own messages using the social media toolkit.
  • Encourage students to attend the events this week. 
  • Consider hosting small appreciation strategies in your office or area. Ideas include:
    • Providing treats or snacks. 
    • Good egg awards.
  • Take pictures and post student employee spotlights.
  • Decorate an office bulletin board or sign recognizing student employees.
  • Have an office gathering to celebrate student employee service.
  • Create “finals survival” kits.
  • Have professional staff sign a thank you card for students.

Social Media Toolkit

 Supervisors are encouraged to customize a variety of social media posts for student employees on Tuesday, April 9, or anytime throughout the week. The social media toolkit includes Canva templates through the Miami University Enterprise account. Be sure to plan ahead so you can request review from University Communications and Marketing.
