Catalog description:

This course focuses on the development and use of software that reliably preserves the security properties of the information and systems. The topics emphasized in this course include secure software design, implementation, testing, deployment, documentation, and maintenance. The ethics surrounding cybersecurity are also discussed from a software development and maintenance perspective.

Credit Hours: 3

Prerequisites: CYB 134, CSE 201.

Learning Outcomes:

Students will be able to:

1. Explain how failures in fundamental security design principles can lead to system vulnerabilities that can be exploited as part of an offensive cyber operation.
2. Apply design and implementation principles of secure software.
3. Apply methods for reducing software complexity for improved security.
4. Identify, compare, and apply fundamental security design principles to software.
5. Describe and apply static and dynamic software testing methods.
6. Explain basic concepts of software deployment, configuration, and maintenance.
7. Describe the ethics of secure software, especially in development, testing and vulnerability disclosure.
