Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grants
Federal grants for undergraduate and graduate students, awarded in exchange for specific future teaching service in designated high-need fields and low-income elementary and secondary schools. If you do not complete the required teaching service, the grant becomes a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Student Loan that must be repaid.
The Charles F. and Claudia E. Cornett Creative Teaching Scholarship
Awarded to an undergraduate student, of junior or senior class standing, majoring in the Department of Teaching, Curriculum, and Educational Inquiry who demonstrates creative, out of the box thinking, that is essential to effective problem solving and thus central to excellent teaching.
Local Scholarships (e.g. Middletown, Hamilton, Greater Oxford Community Foundations)
Graduating high school seniors attending high schools in Butler County and the greater Hamilton, Ohio area, with a focus on: Stephen T. Badin, Edgewood, Fairfield, Hamilton, New Miami, Ross, Talawanda, and Lakota
Home-educated students from these high school districts are also eligible for one scholarship
Full-time students already attending college who attended Hamilton area high schools
Adults returning to college who are residents of Hamilton, Ohio.
Talent Attraction Program Scholarships for college graduates.
General Scholarship Requirements
Students must have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA
Students must be attending or planning to attend an accredited technical school, university, or college
Enrolling as a full-time student at a college or university and/or vocational or trade school
Demonstrated financial need
Scholarships awarded in Spring must be used the following Fall.
How to Combine Scholarships and Financial Aid
Miami’s financial aid is processed in the following manner:
Scholarships are awarded to eligible students. No separate application is required.
Federal Pell Grants are awarded to eligible students based on their Student Aid Index (SAI).
If a FAFSA was filed by Miami’s priority deadline, University-administered need-based aid, grants, and scholarships are awarded within the limits of available funds and eligibility criteria.
Federal Direct Loans are awarded to students/parents based on federal eligibility guidelines.
Federal Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program
Under the Teacher Loan Forgiveness (TLF) Program, if you teach full time for five complete and consecutive academic years in a low-income school or educational service agency, and meet other qualifications, you may be eligible for forgiveness of up to $17,500 on your Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans and your Subsidized and Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans.
Eligibility Requirements
You must not have had an outstanding balance on Direct Loans or Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program loans as of Oct. 1, 1998, or on the date that you obtained a Direct Loan or FFEL Program loan after Oct. 1, 1998.
You must have been employed as a full-time, highly qualified teacher for five complete and consecutive academic years, and at least one of those years must have been after the 1997–98 academic year.
