Biography

J Ravancho (they/them) is an Academic Advisor and instructor in the Farmer School of Business at Miami University. In their advising role, J partners with undergraduate business students as they navigate their academic journey, explore majors and careers, develop semester-by-semester academic plans, and make informed decisions that align with their personal, academic, and professional goals. They also serve as an instructor for BUS 106: FSB Success Strategies, where they help first-year students build the knowledge, confidence, and sense of belonging needed to thrive in college.

J's advising philosophy is grounded in the belief that meaningful relationships are at the heart of student success. They strive to create an environment where students feel seen, heard, and empowered to show up authentically, recognizing that every student's story, experiences, and aspirations are unique. Through a developmental and student-centered approach, J encourages students to think critically about who they are, what they value, and how they can intentionally shape their college experience. Their goal is not simply to help students choose classes, but to cultivate the confidence and self-authorship that enables them to make informed decisions long after graduation.

A two-time graduate of Miami University, J earned a Bachelor of Science in Commerce with a concentration in Small Business Management before completing a Master of Science in Student Affairs in Higher Education. During their graduate studies, they concentrated on the Realities and Trends Impacting BIPOC students in Higher Education, deepening their commitment to fostering inclusive, supportive, and equitable learning environments for all students.

J is passionate about rehumanizing the college experience by helping students build meaningful connections—to themselves, to others, and to the opportunities available within the Farmer School of Business and Miami University. They consider it a privilege to accompany students throughout their collegiate journey and are committed to helping each student discover a path that is both personally fulfilling and professionally meaningful.
